Geelong HotRod Show Pics (24Apr11)

Headed down to the Geelong HotRod Show with Charger-Steve for a look and saw some great cars. The weather was perfect, no wind, no rain, and slight overcast.
Really well run event with entrants camping the 3 or 4 days, and there was a Go-to-Whoa event not only for the cars (with burnouts), but the 1/4 scale kids in their petrol-powered rods too (um.. without burnouts!).
A really great time.

Here is one of my favorite cars of the event. I didn't even get a still shot of it because I couldn't find where it was. Certainly heard it though and had to film. What a sleeper!
Assuming a high-comp, decent amount of cubes and a solid in the 250@0.050" region. -even more impressive if I'm wrong.
Wait till it drives off to get a better idea of what this thing sounded like.
(PS: That's The Craven in the green polo.)

I took nearly 250 pics, so here is simply a best-of. Enjoy.

About to leave..

Passed by this really clean Barracuda along the way.

These guys know how to do it!

There was cuising around the show grounds which was great. Static diplays need some action!

This Willys Gasser was driven by a babe. I wanted to propose to her, but never saw her again.

Later found the car with no babe in sight.. Pic inside.

'58 (or '59?) wagon.

An XY-ed XR or XT Canadian 2door.

Australian Chrysler Royale

One of many of blown-Hemi-powered rods..

68 Camaro with 396 & SS emblems. 468 powered?

El Camino.

Low!!

Model T with my favorite injector hat of all time.. The Scott Super Slot!

Looked like an original hat with perhaps a home-made base. Was missing the "SCOTT" raised font in the casting.

Soo Cool.

Is that supposed to be a vagina?

I much prefer these T-birds to the later tanks.

Nice Chevelle. So, there was some later muscle there..

Found shelter in case it rained.

Immaculate Crown Victoria.

Late, non OE battery let down it's otherwise awesome engine bay.

The color of this 57 was brilliant against it's chrome.

Good way to keep the kids in order!

Skulls & bones always look good. Great artwork too.

Some people go to great effort and expense to remove rust..
Some go to great effort and perhaps expense to paint it on..

To me, there is something un-cool about fake rust.. Extremely convincing paint job though.

Another one of my faves..

Herman!

"You want me to get in that??"

So small. (Yes, it's the Dart! )

Some rods have nothing in particular, but just ooze coolness. Edit: Actually, this one has a lot in particular..

Designed by mice?

348 or 409 Mark 1 BBC powered.. I forgot to get a pic of the entire car!

Custom wheelchair.

I'd love the Mobil bowser but a tad over $3K.

Anticipation..

This paint is beautiful.. Looked like annodizing.

The orange on the exhaust flanges are a nice touch.. The effect of it glowing.

Another awesome '57 with beautiful color contrasting to chrome.

The kids during their Go-to-whoa event..
So cool. For a moment, I wish I had some, just so I have an excuse to make them a mini rod. I need an army of kids though, because my cars would have to be so high-powered that I'd end up going through a few of them.

Loads more but damn, that's enough for now..

That was exactly a topic of our discussion outside the bar where I filmed that Bitchn' '34.
I can imagine the EasterNats being totally cringe-worthy in comparison.

No I didn't, and I'm real disappointed that I didn't get her face in the first pic I posted. I really did look for her too.
Did get these others though..

I don't know how we'd go at a display at this show however.. Although a handful of 60s muscle did get in (I counted maybe 3), it is after-all a hot rod show and hot rods are pre '49. There was very little anything 1960s and nothing at all later.
In saying that.. Guffer you'd have no problem with your 64 Caddy.

Well USMuscle.com.au was a sponsor of the event this year check your entrants t-shirts..

But the nationals are every 2 years and at different locations all over the country..

Also i think they only accept pre-65' cars as entrant vehicles only... Hopefully they change that, as there is a huge amount of people that would have also entered if that was a few years higher...
