Yup.
Just amazing how some people [ & even motoring journalists ] get misty eyed & start dribbling at the mouth about the XY Phase III Falcon GTHO.
I remember beating a GT Falcon at the old Castlereagh drag strip in Sydney. Friends of the GT driver approached me after the race, ashen faced, & asked me 'Do you realise you just beat a phase II?'.
'Yeah, done it plenty of times', I replied which kind of floored them; they thought the GTs were the most powerful cars on the planet. I was in my old Dodge, all two tons of it, 440 powered...

In the US, the HOs would just have been a set of option boxes you ticked on your order form.

I won't dispute that. But everyone and his dog has a definition of what constitutes a muscle car/pony car/sports car/ute/station wagon/roller skates..... It is what ever you want it to be

I'm glad to see a few here actually agree with me. I was thinking maybe I was getting it wrong with so many Aus. car enthusiasts disagreeing.

Oh yeah, and don't get me started on the 'disciples' of the Holden 308, who think it's some sort of icon of the V8 world. They rabbit on about how it was some sort new and innovative design. Why go to all that trouble and just build a 5 litre engine? Further, the top half is Oldsmobile and you can put a SBC crank in it. Yeah, all new...

I haven't experienced that, in fact I know quite a few who put Chev motors in their Holdens back in the day and many who are putting in LS1's these days.

Not that looks should matter to an engine, but 308s are so ugly..

One other thing about the GT Falcon. I've always wondered about the Phase III being the 'fastest four door in the world'. In 1971, you could still get a hemi or a high compression 440. Fitted in something like a plane jane Dodge Polara sedan, you'd have to think that would give anything with a 351 a kick in the pants...

It seems these days anything with a chrome bumper is a "Muscle Car"
Personally, i don't give 2 FKS what you call it....its good for the 'industry'.
Have you been to a local cruise night lately?? theres 5x the amount of "Muscle Cars" on the road these days.
So call 'em what you want, as far as I'm concerned...it's all good!!
Thats my 2 cents anyway.

Yep, hoping to go on a cruise tomorrow night if the weather's good.

This one's the All American Mystery Cruise Night by the Camaro Firebird Club but is open to all American cars whether they be Muscle, Pony, Kit cars, Hot Rods, etc.

A few Aus. cars also turn up to the car park prior to the cruise.

Bonne,
You got it 100% right about the 440 Polara. A 440 powered Police cruiser would wipe the floor with a Phase 3.

The fact I wont dispute it doesn't mean I agree :-)
