Great clip..
Ha ha Paul Stanley.. "They also throw chickens at him.." (Eric)
I think that was a joke at Eric's original character.. If it wasn't, I laughed anyway.. Did you ever see that outfit? Glad he went with the fox.

(Anyway, I agree with Gene.. ..Rock'n'roll.)

Yeah, I remember when he came out with his first fox mask, then it went through a few changes.

I just found this and hadn't known he was originally thinking of being a hawk.

Which band are you in?

We keep applying for festivals but for some reason don’t appeal to the promoters. They may also have obligations to record labels, etc. to feature certain bands, there’s always politics involved.

It may get better for us due to our signing and as the CD gets more recognition, fingers crossed.

Im in a Heavy instrumental/tech band called Prescient.
It is difficult, its not what you know its who you know most of the time.
Being on a label they should shout you good gigs. My brothers band, Saviour, is on the artery foundation, so they get pretty high profile gigs a lot now including national tours quite regulary

I think that was a joke at Eric's original character..
My initial thoughts were he was referring to 'a fox among the chickens' but you could be onto something.

This depends on who else knows who, if a band is touring you’re likely to get bands in that country from the same label supporting them.

You could also get deals that label owners have with promoters, i.e. one says to a promoter, ‘you risk putting on two shows for these low profile bands and I’ll give you exclusive access to a band from my books that is guaranteed to make your money back and then some’, etc.

You gotta understand something about Gene Simmons.. He came from a poor background brought up only by his immigrant mother and kind of became addicted to making money and wealth in fear of ever going back to poverty.. There are a great deal of people like that.
I reckon for sure that the network approached Gene about the Family Jewels idea and he went with it because it made him money -even though it was crap.
Apart from being too full of himself, he's very intelligent, has a great sense of humor, is pretty sharp and quick off the mark.

Not the first and won't be the last family to do this, Sylvania Waters anyone?

If you look at the clip above you can see how thin he was, add 35+ years to anyone and they won't exactly look pretty. The make up was a genius idea, Ozzy also admits Black Sabbath did similar, he says plenty of people are into horror movies so why don't we write songs along a similar theme. They were initially named The Polka Tulk Blues Band.

The make up also hid the fact they weren't exactly White Anglo pretty boys like the Beatles, Beach Boys, etc.

Talent and smarts, he received an A for a college thesis on "The social significance of the panel graphic art form" - comics basically. They went on to become comic like heroes on stage.

The audio's a bit better on this version

Yeah, although I've never read it one guy told me they didn't think they'd be as big if they went on stage as they were, America tends to favour pretty white boys in their music charts and they would've been too 'ethnic'. Ace Frehley's face is also quite rough, he likes the booze and apparently has been in quite a few bar fights and had a broken bottle smashed over his head.

I've also heard the face paint they used in their early days was lead based which damaged their skin.

For those that weren't around back in the day, KISS were never photographed without make up, a few rare photos do exist.

Fans would wait for them at airports so they'd board planes in full makeup and gear.
