We went to the Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach this morning.
Early start, it starts at 6 am!!
These blokes don't hang around so you need to get there well before 8am to see most of the cars (i.e before they all start to leave)

Some really nice cars.
Really liked the black GMC pickup with blown big block and huge rear boots

This one was for sale.
Really tidy with a small block, not bad for $7,500

This thing was tuff as nails

Good variety of cars with some really nice examples of Pontiacs

Pretty fine 409

Looks like a good power / weight ratio

I like Nova's and there were a few nice units there

Camaro (of course)

This 'vette was cool. Lot's of rubber, new 'vette donk and a manual trans

---------- Post added at 12:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:23 PM ----------

..... a few more

Not sure what year this 'vette was but it was super tidy with a big block

Didn't look much but went like a rocket

This new Camaro was loaded with aftermarket stuff (big brakes, wheels, induction etc etc) Sleeper?

Another nice Nova (not sure how many red Nova's we saw this morning)

Lot's of this style of rod (don't call m "Rat rods" )

Glad you like the photos so far.
Another early morning start for the Pomona swap meet.
I thought this was going to be big but I still cannot get over the number of cars in the "for sale" section.
It was like a Westfield shopping centre car park

I was told it is a 15 mile trek to see everything (it felt like it)

I am looking for a 55 - 57 Chevy Pick up but although there were plenty pf examples I didnt find anything that fitted the bill.
I'll keep looking.

Sorry Shane, no flag holders.

My tip for Pomona is get there when it opens, 5am, as eveything starts to wind up around 12 pm.
There is so much to look at you need to keep moving the whole time to try to see as much as possible

Anyway, here's some more photos. (mostly of cars in the for sale section, or cars that are for sale cruising the road up the middle of the swap meet)

They aren't all pristine

This was nice, suposed to be original and matching numbers

Need a workshop manual? This bloke had a semi trailer full

Really liked this one but way too far from stock to consider

This thing was way over the top but I liked it

Just a small section of the cars for sale

Great Stuff, Nice Photos.

Pomona is always crazy, I was blown away when I first went.

Nev, Tell me are prices for cars gone up at Pomona?

Hey Benny, I was expecting Pomona to be big but I was still surprised.

There were a lot of cars that I would consider overpriced, but I did see a few that looked like a bargain e.g. '88 Corvette for $4K, needed work but for $4K I thought it wasn't bad.
There were a few 55 - 57 pick ups that had reasonable price tags but were too far from stock to get back to Oz (in my opinion)
Also saw a few project cars that would be worth looking at but in general the prices were quite high for something that you would just get in and drive

---------- Post added at 02:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:09 PM ----------

Went out to Classic Industries to pick up some parts today and while we were out there we dropped by Chip Foose's shop.

Here's a few pics

Caddy getting dropped off

Unfortunately didn't get the camera out quick enough to show this going for test blast up and down the street.

COPO clone that is going to be "tidied up"
"

This 65 (?) Impala getting reworked with some influence from Corvette stylings

This rod had been built by others and had been delivered to the Foose shop for a refresh

Off to Disneyland tomorrow (still a big kid)

Nev, My business partner Julian was there also and he said it was the worse turn up hed ever seen. Heaps of Junk and and a small turnout. Usually the carpark is totally full right to the grandstands. Most of the good stuff was way overpriced.

Hi Adrian,
Wow, if that was a small turnout it would be hard to see everything if they have a big turn out.
I think I learned a bit though.
You see some of the cars from a distance and you think "that's not too bad" and then you get close and start to pick up some of the issues you may not see in a photo. e.g. rust, wavy panels, poor fitting panels etc etc.

Your partner is right, reasonable condition cars had over the top prices in my opinion.
If your partner spots any reasonable (price & conditon) 55 - 57 Chevy pick ups send me a message

We are off to Denver in a couple of days to check out the Super chevy show (and some horse events)

I lasted 3 hours at disneyland and haven`t fully recovered sooo many screaming children. Best contraceptive in the world. Barry White`s speedshop is only about a 20 min drive from disneyland and is well worth a look.
