Some more updates on the body work. We had to do some repairs to the firewall as i don't know what had been done before i got the car but someone had hacked around the inlet hole for the heater. Its fixed now and the new heater cover fits nice.

The car came with an interior that was very tired, it had what appear to be 2nd gen camaro buckets, a flat piece of house carpet and door trims with big speaker holes!
I got a friend who travels to the US for parts regularly to locate me a second hand original bench which he did, he said it was ok and altogether. When i recieved it it was altogether but i'm sure some stray dogs had been using it as a bed for the last 10 years, man it stunk. Had new foam fitted and re-trimmed. The door trims i got a great deal from elcamino store when they had a sale and got a pair of trims for $190.00 USD.
The arm rests i painted in plastic saturn bumer paint and i'm about to cover the old foam with some new vinyl.

Very nice ute. Can you tell me where you took the bumpers to get repaired and how much damage did they have before taking them and cost.
I'm still thinking what to do with my bumpers. And last question did the 2nd generation seats fit well the ute, it could be a good idea for my chevelle.

Hi Peter

I will be running at Winton, the numbers may be down as its the first time they are running the event. I hope they can build the event over a few years to be big.

Hi

My rear bumper was pretty damaged around the number plate area and it also had other dents and they have done an excelent job. Prahran Platers is the company that did the rear. It cost $600 but there was a fair bit of damage. The chrome they applied is much better than the chrome on the new front bumper i got from the US. The seats looked ok but for me i wanted a bench seat. They looked a little skinny for my liking inside the elcamino cabin but you may think otherwise.

(THATS'S GOLD JERRY) for those of you who watch Seinfeld!

I painted my car Inca Gold which was a HK monaro colour. The elky was actually an original gold car so i suppose i have put it back to its old glory (sort off).
Now that the race car is out of action for short time, i am excited to start work on the reasembly of the tow car. I have plans to put some stripes on the car either white or matt black, not sure yet but leaning towards white. I took some photos with flash on and off and it shows the colour very different, don't have any photos in the sun as it was raining when i brought it home.

The next job to do is weld up the holes in the floor from the buckets seats that were fitted when i got the car. This car is getting the original bench seat back. After welding will rust seal floor and fit body deadner.

Nice!

Re: stripe colour.

I say forget black or white, and go for a shade or 2 darker/lighter than the body colour, or maybe just a matte version of the body colour. Give it a subdued look.

Sleek!

Some progress today, fitted all the trim on the top of the bed rail and the tail lights etc.
I have read on other threads on USM about new parts and panels that are new but dont fit very well. This happened to me today! One of the trims missing from the car was the trim atop the tailgate, i purchased a new trim from the US and its a terrible fit. The Elko is no show car but its disapointing when new parts just don't fit right. I managed to masage it to fit but it took many hours

This seems to happen quite frequently, but most of the more popular models/pieces have been fixed and now properly fit. You will find, however, that the less popular models and pieces that don't have much of a market tend to not get squared away as quickly, because the initial production runs take so long to sell out. So starting from scratch and having something re-tooled or re-molded for a new production run is a waiting game.
