Nothing of note. Metalwork is all finished. Just needs nicky and paint.

The guy doing it works on his own (has a helper 2 days a week), and has 3 projects, so each gets a week in a rotation - plus smaller jobs that come in between.

I've got the front end suspension and brakes ready to start putting together, just hunting down the correct hardware to bolt the front crossmember up (I had to cut/grind off the originals).

I'll be taking the motor down to get cleaned and machined, then I can start piecing it back together.

Unfortunately, things will slow a bit as I need to replace the SBC in the Impala.

Thought I'd give this a bit of an update.

As mentioned elsewhere on the forum, I have decided to go the LS route with this build. I'm on the hunt for a 6.0L and TR6060 6 speed manual out of a Holden.

Still waiting on a pair of repro doors to be shipped out of the US. Will need to order a new hood and a full bed at some point, but with the dollar so sh*t at the moment, I've got better things to throw my money at (Impala).

No more work done on the cab. Still in primer. Need to wait until the doors land so they can be test fitted and make sure all work done so far won't hinder their fitment.

Diff is f*cked. Internals were ok, but the rust encasing the outside was so bad it ate into the housing in spots. Way too thin. Could be months before I get my hands on another one. Complete package from Moser, to me, landed, taxes, etc, will be between AUD $5000-$6000, depending on shipping method. F*ck that.

Today I thought I would at least get one thing done, and putting the front springs and spindles in would be worth the effort.

They're 2" drop spindles from ECE, and have been sitting around for a while so surface rust started doing its thing. I grabbed the wire brush drill bit, and also one onto the grinder, and got it all off .... then gave the spindles half a dozen coats of Eastwoods Diamond Clear Gloss Finish for Bare Metal.

Looks good. Only time will tell how well this stuff holds up.

Once dry, I started getting the springs compressed and ready, only to realise I had no castle nut for the lower control arm ball joints. They're in the boxes from when I had the ball joints pressed in, but I can't find what I did with those boxes.

So that put an end to that.

Spindles came up good though. Used nearly a full can of Eastwoodson the pair.

Long time no update.

After an 8 months search, I now have a usable diff. Found a decent 12 bolt from a 69 C10 on a Aussie C10 Facebook group. Haven't opened it up yet, but I know it's got a Posi unit inside. Not sure on the ratio. The numbers on the diff say it's a single spin 3.07, but the original owner of the vehicle it came out of put Posi guts in it.

The axle tubes have been wire-wheeled as the guy I bought it off had started attaching gear for a 4-link setup before deciding to ditch it and get a 9". Need to grab myself some leaf spring brackets.

So stoked I don't have to spend a few thousand on a new unit out of the US, which was the way I was almost resigned to.

This is the diff it's replacing

Eastwood Clear

Russ, where did you get the Eastwood clear coat? In Australia? If so, I would like to get my hands on some. I'm happy to get it from the USA, but I'd like to support a local importer.

Regards from Down Under.

Thank you both

rodent, looks like the Body Shop, not that far from me. I just checked it up and they're at 56-58 Frankston/Dandenong Road in Dandy South. I currently use VHT Cast Iron Grey to paint my steering boxes after they have been hot tanked and cleaned, but the grey isn't EXACTLY the same as virgin iron.

Russ, have you decided on a steering box upgrade for your truck? Let me know, I have a few in stock.

Regards from Down Under.

No updates. Will be for sale soon.

Took over 12 months to finish the LS swap on my Impala, for no other reason than the guys working on it couldn't be bothered. Plus I was unemployed for the entire time, so coupling no income with an uninterested mechanic kind of sucked the fun out of cars for me.

I've had the Impala back for 2 weeks now and haven't touched it. I have zero interest in driving it now. Will probably sell that too.

I'm sure we can all relate to that feeling of ups and downs in motivation around these cars, not to mention varying income levels (I know I sure can - having been unemployed 4 times in 10yrs of Camaro ownership). That said, I've no doubt the time will come again when the satisfaction of turning a spanner will bring you back to it. If not these rides, then down the track. Best of luck with it mate.

Don't be too hasty to sell......you'll get the bug again and it will be harder to get back into it again if you have to buy an entire new car.
