It's soon to be put to a vote to State treasurers. Apparently it will cost more to implement and administer than what $ it will bring in, but probably it will be voted in regardless.

They will start charging an "Admin Fee" on all imports to cover the cost! I can see it now try and bring in $100 worth of parts that can't be sourced locally and be hit with $10 GST and $50 admin fee, that they will then slug you with GST as well

Oh boy ... Time to Get a VPN and US based credit card and paypal account.

In other news the ALP has announced today that if it wins the next election that all Australian online retailers will be billed annually for the equivalent of rent in a Westfield shopping centre.

Frank, what is their logic for that, are they saying they own the internet and as the owner they will charge rent for having your digital store on it ? We wonder why jobs, cash and tax dollars go offshore. Harebrained crap like that just makes people take their businesses elsewhere, net result less tax dollars coming in, less jobs for Australians. When will they learn the path to prosperity in the digital age is being disruptive, doing things other countries aren't. They should be encouraging worldwide digital businesses to set up here.

:-( They could start by also enacting a new attitude to Australia Post..as a tool of modern commerce.. giving the average person in Australia a way of reaching the worlds markets economically..
Currently it costs around 250% more to send a registered air parcel to the USA then it does USA to Australia. Tracking by AP is a luxury.. and it sucks in its international reliability. Look at the way the Chinese have helped their citizens supply to the world market.. you can buy out of Global Soucing online delivered WITH live tracking any amount of stuff.. and wait a week or two for it..cheaper WITH the product AND post total then at say Bunnings..... & many of the same products locally.
Would you buy a store at a big store outlet like Westfield or Stocklands.... days of big shopping centers as we knew them.. are probably numbered..
We can not compete anymore.. simple as that.!
With 50% of our population not paying income tax or being welfare dependent.. (and more pledged to be imported..with a $450 million donation of our money.. to the UN apparently at the ALP conference today) you can guess who the political parties will suck up to for the next round of votes...and why.

Um, actually I made it up ... Wouldn't surprise me though if they did something like that. Anything to pick the average Joe Worker clean of their hard earned cash.

It'll get a complete ground up resto, the only original part will be the air from the tyres.
