Well just as everything was going smoothly i hit my first hurdle. I had been discussing the issues with idle speed and carrying out the adjustments as per Chuck Smith's instructions from the US and have discovered an issue thats all my doing.
I'm absolutely kicking myself for not doing enough investigation earlier in the build.
The problem at the moment is that the injection system relies on a specific amount of vacuum to work correctly and that is a minimum of 12 inches of mercury at 850rpm wich is the common idle speed for a fuelie.
I have 12 iom at 1300rpm and 10.5 iom at 1200rpm. The cam that came with the engine when i recieved the car was supposed to be an identical copy and i have found out its not I should of checked at the time. Its too big and does not produce enough vacuum at idle and keeps cutting out.
The injection system was test run with the factory cam and it worked well before shipping to Australia.

So now i need to fit the correct factory cam! I am ordering this tomorow and plan to change over some time later in the year.
At least i can still drive it just with a high idle speed for now.

Wheel alignment is done and RWC is tomorow.

Bummer about the cam Rowan, I was going to suggest Rhoads lifters, but it's almost as much stuffing around and they probably won't work with a solid cam anyway.
How did the alignment go ?
I did mine again, 2.3○+ caster and .25- camber and maxed out with shims.
I'm a bit "over it" now, so I'm going to live with it

Yer i know its a sh*t about the cam but in one way i'm happy i know the issue, the engine is real nice and pulls strong but just don't idle.
I am purchasing the same cam that my injection was tested on so i know it will be spot on when its done.

The alignment was all done with shims, i have the settings at work and can post tomorow for you, but lucky for me i did not need offset shafts.

Front end set up was
-0o 13' Camber
+1o 34' Caster

RWC was done today.
Discussions with Chuck Smith today confirmed that the optimum cam for the injection and street driving is a Comp Cams Magnum 270S. I wish i had of discussed this 2 years ago. Anyway at least i will get it right when fitted. He has advised that this will perform and drive better than the original factory cam.

I hate changing cams it's a PITA specially on a highly detailed engine, but if it has to be done, it has to be done.
So is that -0.13○ camber & +1.34○ caster, do you have PS and how does it feal, good return out of a corner and track well ?
Just trying to figure out if and where I'm going wrong

One way to increase a noticeable amount of manifold vacuum is to run a looser valve lash. No idea what the existing cam's spec is or what the factory suggest with the OE cam, but adding just 0.005" may help a lot.
It effectively reduces the duration. You do need to be careful no to go too far as excessive amounts of lash with remove the lobes' ramps and can do damage.
Ask a few questions with some companies that grind cams. As much as 0.010" or 0.015" to an already 0.020" - 0.030" might be very safe.

Yes thats the setting, i have only done 45 miles so far, tracking is good, have not really noticed much about the turning other than its harder than i'm used to due to non power steer. The big steering wheel makes it a bit easier.

That was the first adjustment recomended and went from .020" to 0.030" it made marginal change.
I have also checked every nook and cranny for signs of vacuum leaks.
Unfortunetly cam change will be done!

Car is registered and got the club plates on the car now!
Recieved the best recommended cam today to make this fuel injection system hum! The injection already hums but at 1500rpm and above at the moment. I have been recomended this cam as it makes the engine and car perform better than the factory original. Am expecting the idle to be around 800rpm not the current 1400rpm due to no vacuum.
Cam is a 270S
Dur @ .050 224 int 224 exh
Valve lift .468 int .468 exh
Lobe Sep 110.0
Hope to do the install in January. Then this will be awsome to drive!
