Rust work....

Hi Guys,

Need some recommendations for metal work.

Got some floors need replacing as well as a little rust in the lower front cowl drainage (behind front wheels) on my 1968 camaro. Common areas for the problem, nothing too dramatic, but yeah - need some recommendations.

Eastern or South Eastern suburbs preferred.

Found a reference on the forums to a place called American Graffiti:

Spoke to the guy - seems nice and rates are reasonable. Anyone used them?

Be grateful for any other recommendations also.

Eastern Suburbs - Motorvation, Burgess Rd Bayswater, ask for Tim. Tell him Pete with the Nova sent you. Great bunch of guys, they do heaps of resto work.

Motorvation - yes I know them.

I agree - they are awesome guys and the work is good.

I know you get what you pay for, but metalwork rates are around $85-$88 per hour I am finding.

Shop rate at motorvation was around $100 if I recall (or that is what they charged me last time).

I was hoping to pay less than that for rust work. I am being unreasonable with that??

My quotes so far - shop rate for fabricators (one in clayton, the other in Seville) are $85 and $88 respectively.

I'll call motorvation though. Maybe they charge less for metal work.

Keep suggestions coming plse!

Just for an FYI - called motorvation - shop rate is still $100 per hour. I am not going to be able to pay that sort of rate with the repair budget I have unfortunately.

They do good paint work though - for sure.

Might need to look elsewhere for the rust work though.

Appreciate any other suggestions.

I'll send you a PM of the old school guy, Gavin Lean, I used out Seville way for some floor repairs out of his shed at home through a personal contact.

That was over 7 years ago and every chance he's no longer around / doing it.

Hi guys,

I went this place to visit the shop owner:

Seems like a legit guy. Place a little chaotic, BUT he made me feel comfortable, so going to drop my car into there over the next couple of weeks.

Will update on how things progress.
