directional air flow I watched this a few weeks ago, and based on my limited knowledge I am happy to say I predicted the right ones at the top. In short think about what a supercharger does, it jambs air in. if you have air flowing straight down, it's going to maintain or increase it's speed / pressure as it is pushed into the manifold. Itf it needs to take a 90 degree turn that's likely to slow down and reduce the air pressure. What did suprise me though is some of those test just go to show how restrictive some of the elements really are

A lot of people have tried the K&N air cleaner filter lids....& lost power.

It makes sense to me why this could happen. You have two air streams coming from different directions.... colliding above the carb venturiis...causing turbulence, possible loss of net airflow & booster buffeting that upsets fuel metering.

Though the results for 'this test' at least, imply you have to be making over 650hp before it comes into play...

Still, I wonder if we start seeing more people try using air cleaner spacers with an element top as a 'proper' version of their 'taped-side' housing. Considering I've already got an element top, for $20 it makes me think about giving it a go to see what would look like... not that I'm making 650HP to make a rat's difference

EDIT.. Whoops... Naturally, these spacers are carb OD not filter OD (as I implied).. haha. DERR!!

Still, wondering if something around / easily made...

I'm doing some work on the Mach1 , installing a Boss 429 scoop and putting a functional hole in the bonnet. Also picked up a......salad bowl yesterday as it actually fit the height and size criteria of what I needed. Filtered top will sit even with the top of the bonnet Stainless and $8.49

I'll let you know how I go.
