DOTARS rejecting modified classics

Just saw this posted over on Aussiev8.com

Interesting...could have significant implications on our hobby

They have rejected a 1950 Mercury because it has a top chop and custom paint

More info can be found on this forum Ozrodders.com

This means a Camaro that was originally a small block cannot be imported if it is fitted with a big block or a repro 32 ford roadster even though they already have the definition of a "Street Rod" that includes replicas.

Even a 66 mustang with mag wheels may get rejected. the thing is they dont tell you this until it has arrived on the dock HERE IN Australia

I have heard about them rejecting glass hot rods as guys were calling them 32 models etc but customs classes them as newer cars.
This will be interesting if it is true, the value of our modified cars might go up if you can't bring in the modified ones from the states, which are currently flooding the market.

I have heard this also and its mainly got to do with Rods. Have to prove it was built before 1989.

Big blocks are standard for SS and there is nothing on the trim tag or VIN to say it's not a big block or an SS, only a V8.

Sounds like they must have a meeting with their SA colleagues.
At least we can have a big block if it was an option

Right on Steve... mod's will need to be obvious-ish to get pulled up, otherwise DOTARS will need to employ concours judges...

Suppose this type of crackdown is aimed at the Foose etc "restomods"...

I think the crackdown is just aimed at who they consider to be "hoons".
Making it hard for petrolheads. Imposing rules and regulations for no real practical reasons..
To be ****s in other words.
