TUFF68 - Race Version

Well after Birchy catching on that i've been up to something latey and being evasive about it, thought it was about time to come clean and spill the beans.

After running another couple of 10's at the Westernationals and getting booted out from racing i thought my short racing career was over as i've said many times before that i have no intention of putting a cage or roll bar in the Camaro. As my luck would have it, the same weekend this car was on ebay so gave the guy a call in Melbourne and when the ebay listing finished and it did'nt sell i jumped on a plane and made a quick visit and we struck a deal.

With a number of stories in the past 12-24months i've been hearing about cars being damaged in transit from the East - Mitch and Lyndsay included, i decided not to take the risk and drove to Melbourne to pick it up. After living in a truck for 7 days and 7,000km later it's now in my garage.

The car arrived in Australia in July 2009 from Tennessee - i have the green title from the last US owner. The cowl tag says it was an original Leman's blue car and was painted black around March 2008, not sure what colour it was prior to that. Previous owner raced it a couple of times at Calder in February

Specs are :
- all steel car apart from the 6" cowl hood, half chassis car built by Pro Fab Motorsports in California
- ladder bar rear end with coil overs, braced full spool 9" with Strange 35 spline axles, removable parachute and wheelie bars,
- 540ci Reher Morrison BB, dyno sheet says 872hp @ 7100rpm and 737ftlb torque @ 5500rpm on C-14 (14:1 comp), Dart block, Aluminium heads, roller cam, 1050 dominator, crank trigger kit, vacuum pump, coated Lemon's headers.
- Dedenbear powerglide with delay box, trans brake and line locker, 5800rpm dominator converter
- 10pt cage, kirkey seats, quick release steering wheel, polished tin work
- Heidt's 2" drop spindles, 4 wheel Wilwood disc brakes
- American Racing TrackStar wheels
- MagnaFuel Quickstar 500 pump and reg

Marty, so that was your Melb trip....

As siad before that is one seriously clean and very tough race car, once your in the 8's you know you'll be aiming for 7's

Wikid. I can only dream of lifting the door on a garage with a pair like that. Must give you ball tingles every time..

Got a debut planned & any prep required?

Massive congrats man. Just sick. Can't wait to hear you experiences piloting a full-blown racer. Bring it on!!

PS - Nice plate idea Ken

Thanks for the comments. The car is pretty much ready to race as is but i'm not. Need to upgrade my S/ST license to a UDL, buy a race suit and a new helmet, if i already had a UDL and the required safety gear it would be very tempting to take it down for the last Fast Friday this month and do my licensing passes. But not to be so it wont see the track until next season. The plan at this stage is to get my licensing passes out of the way in September ready to race the Fast Friday series from October. There is also a small list of things i want to do to the car as well to improve it a bit and finish it off to my liking

I did take the wife for a quick spin down the road here at work when we unloaded it last Sunday, and yes, she crapped herself and i was only taking it very easy Got some video of it driving but don't know how to load it on here from the "My Videos" folder i saved it in

Mitch and anyone else are more than welcome to come past for a looksee

oh, almost forgot, here's a YouTube video the last owner in the US made when it left his place for Australia in May 2009

Marty,
That 68 is beautiful.
If it looks as good in real life as it does on the video you'd be a happy man.
Good luck with it.
Hope you can show us some video when you get her to the track

OMG Marty that thing is drop dead gorgeous. Cant wait for the video when it gets on the strip. That would have to be one of the best looking drag cars in OZ. They dont do anything by halves over there hey. Even the truck that picked it up was unreal!
