Any WA autocross events in 2014 (or ever)?

Fellow enthusiasts - this may have been brought up before but I am keen to find out if there are any autocross/gymkhana style events in 2014 - mainly aimed at us muscle car types. You know the ones, like all the cool vids from Youtube

Id sure be keen to whip my 69 around some witches hats (without the road workers yelling at me ) trying to beat the clock and generally just haven a blast.

If there arent - geez I reckon itd be a good event to look into if there were any keen sponsors on board

Thoughts?

I agree having been to a few in the US they are growing in popularity. I'm not aware of any out here that are remotely like what they have in the US

Its not autocross as such but the WA speed event series has events that you can enter with your street car.
No roll cages required as you race the clock.
A few different tracks as well street circuits hill climbs it looks good.
Going to get into it a bit when I get mine going.

Your right there is a need for these events. I looked pretty hard into a starting a similar thing up here when I had the Camaro. The logistics and insurance dramas I ran into even at the planning stage did my head in. I would definitely build a car to compete if there was such an event here.

Justin, check out the HSV club or any club really as they have a lot of drive days that I think you can join as an affiliate member or something. I know the HSV club do run out at the velodrome track in Midland which is pretty tight but looks like fun. I'm sure AHG track gets used for similar events.

As Stewart mentioned the Speed event series could be worth a look. Lots of hillclimbs which are pretty fun but lots of trees around.

That WA Speed Series looks pretty good - might have to take a look.

Although it would be good to have a short open course to suit the US muscle scene, nothing too high speed with short straights - better for our older muscle & spectator viewing too (especially watching throttle hungry competitors taking a hairpin )

Hmmn - its got me thinking now - I reckon we could get away with a massive parking area initially - I better go have a cold shower before this idea takes root in my head

I've done a heap of days at AHG out by the airport in my Suby, dual skid pans with cones. Costs about 100 bucks each and need about 10 -12 guys for half a day which is heaps of runs. AHG provide instructors and a heap of different courses as part of the day.
Awesome fun, cheap and you learn plenty! Pretty strict about doing burnouts and stuff tho, its more driver training.

Is something like this up your alley?

http://www.rallysprints.com/

Generally they are a bit quicker than "carpark" races, but can be done in a standard car without rollcage.

Go and check a few out first.. Otherwise, check out some of the Club scenes as mentioned earlier. Lots of them are often looking for "place fillers" and you can run at Wanneroo, AHG/RAC Track, Collie, Motorplex, etc...

Cheers Shane,

That looks pretty cool - Id be nursing the rev limiter a bit but looks like bloody good fun nonetheless

Might be a good gap filler til I/we can find/arrange a dedicated event.

Join the WA Sporting Car Club, they run regular tuning days at Barbaballo where memebers can run their street cars and you also get free entry to all events including the V8 Supercars.

These guys run regular motorkhana events, I've run my SRT8 at the last couple of events at Kwinana:
