Brake Backing plate info

Hi All,

Im currently replacing the front and rear shoes on my 64 belair. I have removed one side front and notice there are some grooves in the pads on the backing plate. Can I simply file these smoother or should I pull off and have welded up and ground? Thanks

They should be welded [ or brazed ], then ground flat. If you just file the pads, shoes will sit at angle, which might cause uneven wear, pulling to one side etc.

You could also buy new ones.
