In all of my engines over the years I have never ran a running in oil, always used Kendall 20/50, then at the time I could not get this I switched over to Brad Penn 20/50. Have never had any problems with either of these oils.
Before changing oil I always make sure my engine is hot & have never used an engine flush before.

Never flushed out oil but as said make sure the engine is warm/hot before you drain it. I mainly use penrite oil 20/60.

Use a 5W30 or 10W30 as recommended in your GM user manual.
50 weights are too heavy -especially when you've swapped the stock 195F thermostat for a 180F or less..

No need to flush out old oil. All are polyester based and are compatible with each other.
