Staring ghost issue on chevelle
Hi all,
68 Chevelle, small block 327 , auto Had this ghost issue since i bought the car 2 years ago. Sometimes I would turn the key to start it up and there is NO click, no lights , nothing at all. Key just turns across and nothing. Turn it on again it starts fine. This usually happens around once in 30 starts. I've notices that it happens usually after the car is driven gets warm , parked and then started. Since this started happening , I've replaced the following all new MSD ignition dizzy MSD coil New leads New starter cables and terminals Relocated the ground connection New battery Got auto elec to fully rebuild the original GM starter motor Since all this, the issue still comes up and it pissing me off as there is nothing worse then worrying about the car starting Any ideas? I am guessing to take it back to him, and to start checking wiring from the ignition key Cheers all |

Probably just a worn ignition barrel or key.
My old hilux used to do that. Last edited by Floating HotRod; 08-06-2017 at 05:07 PM.. |

Could be a dodgy starter switch. -the switch that the ignition barrel uses..

No lights, you mean no dash lights? In this case, I would replace the ign sw.
If you mean no park/headlights, then you have a wiring problem. Poor connection through bulkhead connector, battery terminals etc. |

You might want to pull the wiring diagrams from the net and trace it though. I found the ones for a 70 no problem. Make sure you get the coloured ones as makes it much easier. Good luck.

At first I thought you were suffering from VD "voltage drop" but if there is not lights no nothing it can't be that.....must admit my Firebird had the same drama, it was a the feed from the starter main stud with was loose.....big vic....you may remember it happened at krispies one morning....As the other said time to trace it back as there's no simple fix for intermittent dramas.....

Thank you for your help.
What I meant to say is there is no lights on the dashboard when I turn the key,it just doesn't do anything. I will get a new ignition switch and ask auto elec to start from the key. |
