Changing spark plugs in the Vette today as well as brake fluid.
Hoping to take it for a burn to Ararat-Maryborough-Dunolly tomorrow and get a couple of miles on it and give it a bit of a clean out.
It used to ping occasionally(comp 11:1), have started running octane booster......will see how it goes.

Pinging on 11:1.. I'll assume you're using 98, but with how much advance?

It was only pinging when I used Shell Optipus ain't used the crap for years
4 degrees adv..thinking about screwing it up a bit with the octane boost/lead additive.

Shell is the worst of all the 98 octanes..
It has the lowest Motor Octane Number.

BP's Ultimate, Mobil's 8000 are better and from what I've heard, Caltex's Vortex is very good, and possibly the best.

I only use enough Shell to get me to the next Mobil or BP.

Picked her up from the auto sparky (only got half what I wanted done in the 3 weeks due to ..issues & ran out of coin) then drove in perfect sunshine to Sandown to watch racing.

Due to its appeal got to park illegally at front gate, then come into pits later to take a pic next to another orange 67 that whipped the field! Will do separate post. Good day :-)

Only 4* advance @ idle ?
I've found that with any decent aftermarket cam, 16* @ idle and limiting the total to around 36* works best. It's the total or to much vacuum advance causing pinging issues.
Means you've got to mess around with the advance curve, but it'll love you back Jim
And if you can find an "octane boost" that really works, you'll be the first.

Octane boost does really work, but you can't go by the selling hype on the bottle.

If they claim "up to 7 points increase", that would be correct, but only on a really poor grade of fuel.
If you go and fill up with premium 98, and expect to get 105 octane, no way, forget it!
You'd be lucky to get about 2 points on a high quality fuel.

I'm running around 10.5-1 and tried them all with little or no difference (going on the "ping" scale) You're right, what they claim on the bottle is total BS !
The main ingredient is "tolulene" which is a good lead substitute, but little else and you're also right about using good fuel in the first place.
I used to use Shell 100 which was no better than there 98 which is about as good as Caltex 95 Now I use BP ultimate, which seems consistant at least.
Actually "mythbusters" found mothballs was a cheap octane boost alternative

It's not Toluene, It's MMBM of some similar acronym..
Toluene will work. Head down to the paint store and buy Methyl Benzene. Same stuff.
Or go to a Shell depot and buy what they market as "Toluol" from memory.. Once again, Methyl Benzene.
Add about 30% but be careful because the RVP (Reid Vapor Pressure) is crap for a winter fuel. (Hard starting etc.)

I remember when Shell used to advertise there "SUPER" with "Methyl Benzene" I didn't know you can still buy the stuff ?
So where can I get some lead
