A reputable importer will hopefully be working on a solution and for the time being, that may be not to import anything as per the original post. People are caught up in a transition period at the moment because the customs people have been kicked in the arse and told to do their job properly and that has caught a few people out. At the end of the day it will probably add a couple of hundred dollars to the cost of importing a car to get the testing a certification done before the car goes on the boat or as I suggested earlier, to remove all suspect components.

Apparently this asbestos rule has been in for around 3 years now,It is also worth noting that other countries have similar rules re asbestos
