Under $1000 GST?

It's been a while since I've done a USA parts order and I was wondering if anyone could let me know if it's still gst free under $1000.

Yes it is, and the shifty f^&*s include the shipping cost too.

Quite a few of my purchases even over $1000 used to slip through, but now I get whalloped every time.

Yes, GST is a Goods AND Services Tax.

Freight should not be included in 1000 AUD.

It is only the cost of the goods.

If you were paying duties and clearance costs then you shouldn't have.

Yeah I have never had the freight included in the cost as far as GST goes. My understanding is your paying the GST on the purchase price of the item not its combined cost into the country

Pete, I do this for living.

If you want, send me your documents, I will have a look and make sure you get your money back, free of charge.

Interesting .. This is straight from the customs website :

"GST, currently 10%, is calculated on the Customs Value of the goods, plus duty, plus transport and insurance combined. Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) may also be applicable if the imported goods are wine."

http://www.customs.gov.au/faq/DutyGST.asp#Q153

Duty is only calculated on the value of the goods.

GST is calculated on a total customs value., including the duty (if any) and freight.

In most cases stuff out of US comes in duty free therefore duty is not
part of the total GST value, as there is non (in most cases).

Fedex have no idea, you can go back 4 years on any refunds.

I am more than happy to help mate, I've helped a lot of guys here and in 90%
of cases people are getting overcharged.

Goran, you have to admit it's confusing when clearly on the customs website it says GST is calculated on the Customs Value of the goods, plus duty, plus transport and insurance combined.

I guess that's why we have people like yourself.
