Thought I'd save a bit of fuel cost taking it to the suspension place for new rear springs (considering already paid annual roadside fee...)

Was fine until hit freeway then heard belt/whistling type noise kinda like supercharger. Stopped & checked but seemed OK. Then was fine until above 80kmh / 2.5k rpm when noise came back. Looked at volt gauge and was maxxed out at 18v 'redline'. Immediately pulled off to exit ramp just as went 'bang/pop' and died. No elecs at all. Fusebox was fine, alternator turned, belts ok, but had tripped the switch to my audio amps (must have done earlier as I had no music volume prior, even though head unit powered up). Tried jumper cables but still no juice anywhere.

RACV would only send a towtruck, not a roadside guy as was on exit ramp. So towed to suspension place & can suss from there. Auto elec Wade is booked till next year, but said to check the fusable link near starter and that regulator failure may be why overcharged. Is 1yo batery but I reckon that's gone pop too.

Anyway, is in a good place. Props to Steve form Allmakes Suspension in Kensington who I've used several times on my cars. Genuine 'old school' guy, 68 Camaro owner and was totally cool about taking delivery of a dead car. Stay tuned!

Probably just an alternator that died Deano. May have taken out a main fuse. The car still looks like porn though even on a tilt tray

I replaced my ****ty variable steering box with a 2 1/4 turn box out of a 91 Trans Am. Having had a 76 LT Camaro also with the variable box, they all should have had these ones. Feels so much better and what a muscle car should feel like. Road feel is 1000% improved too.

Installed an electric choke on my TA today. The choke works, but for whatever reason doesn't turn off. 5 minutes of research revealed that I shouldn't have put the gasket between the choke mechanism and the hole it goes into, because it cuts off the ground. Dumb dumb dumb.

If the choke operated, then it was getting ground.
Many elec chokes work off 7v, not 12v. Have you checked yours?

Sorry what I mean is the choke worked as in it choked it of air, but wouldn't turn off after a period of time or if you blipped the throttle. I took the gasket out and drove it today and it turns off as it should. The kit I bought was a 12v one to suit an aussie 308 quadrajet but it fits fine.

After months of hot start related issues, I finished fitting a Powermaster gear reduction starter with heat blanket, new 2AWG power and grounds and an Optima yellow top battery. If the car refuses to start when it's hot now I will probably put my head under the wheel and take the handbrake off. The first tests are promising though so far.
