Moon Landing. Who believes...?
Just a small poll regarding the moon landing and who of us believe that man (Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin aboard Apollo 11 in particular) landed..

Votes are anonymous, however, feel free to elaborate why you believe.

You're not really dragging up that old conspiracy theory are you  Seriously, god, you must be bored ! Where do we vote ?

BlackoutSteve 28-02-2011 06:05 PM

Hell no. Just curious who (percentage-wise) believes what..

Detailed 28-02-2011 06:29 PM

me = no I believe we have but not on apollo 11 12 or 13

Of course not on Apollo 13, but what Apollo or other mission?

cluxford 28-02-2011 09:52 PM

OK I'll respond but only if you respond to my poll on whether Elvis is still alive...

In all seriousness I am a believer, they did go to the moon. Why I believe that is my business partner is an avid flight and space junkie, has his own plane and flew with the US Airforce for over 10 years. He has spent time with Buzz Aldrin twice and firmly believes you can't keep a lie up that passionately and vividly for that many yes I believe it was real

Now, is Elvis still alive ?

BlackoutSteve 28-02-2011 10:21 PM

Elvis is alive and currently working in a 7/11 in Hawaii.

I wonder if the "Yes on Apollo 11" voters saying "No" to the other 5 landings?

66FAIRLANE 02-03-2011 08:52 AM

Ooooh...I just broke a deadlock.

BlackoutSteve 02-03-2011 06:46 PM

I also wonder if the "Yes on Apollo 11" voters believe in the Lunar Rover.
It was taken to the moon only on the Apollo 15, 16 & 17 flights.

If there was ever a goal for the first engine brand to make 1000hp for example, and GM did it (and faked it) Ford and or Mopar, with all their equivilant knowledge of what it would take to make that 1000hp, would call foul like madmen if something wasn't quite right.
The Russians, the other country involved in the space race, after 40 years since the 6 moon landings have never, ever cried foul. ..and they know an infinite amount more than any naysayer about what it takes to land on the moon..
I find that interesting. Wow! 1 in 3 people..

I'm reading a book by Jim Lovell at the moment. It's causing me to search for more detail and the Lunar-landing conspiracists are hard to ignore. Their knowledge is very often quite limited and rather naive from a physics point of view also.. (Flag waving in the wind of a studio fan has always cracked me up.)

This is a great episode.

GM NUT 04-03-2011 08:21 AM

Ofcourse they have been to the moon...
They did a special on Myth Busters, and that is a very serious science show!!

BlackoutSteve 04-03-2011 04:07 PM

It's a lot better than taking this idiot's word for it as so many have.. (..not that he's the first.)

Myth Busters may be fun with their myth busting, but that doesn't mean that the laws of physics behave differently just for them.
..and since when have the naysayers ever bothered to wave a flag in a vacuum?

tezza101 04-03-2011 08:21 PM

Waving in the wind is apparently coz of the lunar module disturbing dust.

Generally, reckoned it happened? Yep - it's too hard for that many people to lie for so long.

BlackoutSteve 05-03-2011 04:13 AM

No, it's because there is no air (atmosphere) to dampen the flag while the astronauts where erecting it. So it simple swayed as a pendulum and not from any "wind".
The lunar module disturbed dust while firing it's engine while landing (to slow it) which settled immediately with none of it "hanging" in the air as we expect to see, say when after sweeping a floor for example.. A good example is footage of the lunar rover, which kicks up dust with it's wheels, yet, not a spec hangs in the air. ('cos there is no air).
..and with the huge amount of people involved in the program, you're right, not one person has come forward to say it was a fake.

Many think that Apollo 11 was simply an number they gave their one attempt, and off they went and landed by pure Hollywood fluke.
A huge amount of people have no idea about the number of Mercury or the number of Gemini missions that preceeded, and that Apollo 11 was the 11th Apollo mission. Apollo 1 was a test proceedure that ended in tragedy, Apollo 2 through 6 were un-manned "dress rehersals" around Earth, then Apollo 7 was manned around Earth and Apollo 8 and 10 both went to the Moon but didn't land in more rehersals of how a landing could be achieved. Apollo 9 practiced rendezvous-ing in Earth's orbit and Apollo 11 was ready for an attempt at landing.
..In fact, during the early days of the Apollo program, NASA didn't expect to be ready for a landing as early as Apollo 11.

anychevy 05-03-2011 10:55 AM

Another common one is "Stanly Kubrick" staged all the moon landings and Arthur C Clarke was somehow in on it  as if ?
Anyone with any doubt should read this
Another good read is "the right stuff" check it out if you haven't allready.
