Tracking Device

After hearing about a few cars being stolen , I have decided to order a tracking device for my car . All our company cars have them and it is amazing how well they work. I would rather get my car back in one piece and catch the little Pr@*ks. After hearing about a bob cat that was stolen and recovered 12 hours later after the police raided the property and caught the people involved, then this is the way to go . I have decided the one with the lithium battery back up is the way to go as it will still operate even with the car battery removed. The company is Fleetdynamics but want to know if anybody else has a different brand that they have used. I have been told that you can also shut the car down via the internet on the new model unit. It can be moved from car to car if you update your ride too.

This is a company I'm involved with, that has a range of "good quality" devices at very competitive prices.

I went with ****. inexpensive but works using your smart phone over GSM, So you can requests your cars status, disarm/arm, remote shut down, location from anywhere in the world. didn't realise but it does have a back up battery as it alerts my phone as soon as the car battery is disconnected.
has all the other usual features, as well as some optional ad ons like remote start.
Oh, best of all, no service fee for the tracking, uses gps coordinates and/or google maps.
obviously have to pay for a sim card though.

Dave , it is cheaper but doesn't have a battery backup option. Do you know what the physical size of the unit is ?
I did not see the option of remote shut down.

I have seen this one in operation.

Has the common features of remote shut down, geofence, battery back up etc.

$120 on ebay. (search TK104)

It's about half the size of a pack of smokes, or slightly bigger with the combined backup battery, IGN or fuel cutout is also available.
The company and website is only new, it still has a few bugs, but the equipment is good quality, therefore it's not the cheapest available.
Call Ray (mobile on website) for more info.
Cheers
Dave

I will be watching this one. I am also very interested.

Mmmmmm..... hadn't given this any thought, but am suddenly very interested too. Let us know when you but one and how easy it is to install.

Hmmm, good idea. Does anyone know if it helps with insurance premiums? May even pay for itself if it does.

This Isn't new technology and there are some truly amazing units around for next to no money.
But......we are not the only readers of these forums and I for one, wouldn't be advising anyone, whatever type of security device I had installed in any of my vehicles......sort of defeats the purpose.
Just something to think about, cos there are some dishonest types around and you don't want to make it easier for the pr1ck5, do ya??

I queried this with Shannons and they weren't interested in adjusting the premium.

I also asked them about this last year and as you say they weren't interested.

It's great to see a few different views on this but I have decided that I would rather have the car back in one piece. Not only that but knowing if anybody has taken it for a spin while I was away (wife & kids ) .

D4RKSIDE 23-10-2013 07:39 PM

Awesome for piece of mind. Even small things like getting a phone alert because someone bumps into your parked car. Can head straight out there and see the damage to their plastic bumper ;-)
