1940/1941 Willys.......thoughts.
Howdy guys,

Just wanted thoughts from those who are familiar with the 1941, even 1940 Willys coupe. Like to hear from those who have owned one or know someone who has one. Not fussed whether they had the real deal steel model or the fibreglassed body running a chassis.

Obviously in the states whether they are steel or fibreglass they are getting reasonable dollars but has always been one I have had a hankering for.

And if anyone has any info or links where I can get some more info or contacts for them feel free to post.

Many thanks.

Seen plenty on the usual classified websites in the states.

Ash, I have a couple of friends who own them, very cool cars.
a steel one will command huge money, and of course you cant bring a hot rod in any more.
there is a mob in NZ who do very good fiberglass bodies and several places who do the other body items you'll need such as grill, headlights etc etc.

Not a cheap rod to build and pasts that are specific to the model are much harder to get than say 32-34 ford stuff. (in Australia anyways)

keep clicking on google!!

check link there is a photo of a blue one a mate of mine owned and sold this is what the new owner did to it.

I know where there is a steel one but its not for sale

Anyone else had any experience with them?? Know any owners here in Aus, in particular Vic???

Sorry don't know any owners but I think the Willys are definitely cool. Used to race against mates who had one running outlaw called thunder road racing(not miles :) )

Some of them are very big dollar cars, so I guess I have to just had to re-assess a few things.

Scratches head and wonders whether it still falls within the realms of US muscle.....

The gasser era was legendary, well before my time. Not really my thing but gee some of those things can get up and dance.

There was a high profile Willy's in Vic, the owner was Peter Eames,
type in Peter Eames Willy's into google and there are a couple of sites that may help you.

You beat me to this movie Hot Rod 79 i have it on Video, one of my all time favourite movies.
Peter Gratz has a Willys up in QLD it has an Ex Top alcohol motor with tunnel ram and twin plug heads with twin Dissys 572 Cube Hemi. It has I think either full rego or QLD rod rego not sure but it is a weapon.
Some of you might know him for his Top Doorslammer 57 Chev or Dodge Daytona Slammer. He also has a 68 or 69 Camaro with a 426 Hemi in it.
He is a great bloke and very easy to talk to. Might find some info if you Google his name.

what about this one

Shermatt 01-02-2012 10:58 PM

theres one over here for $45k but the add doesnt say if its a glass body or steel...nice unit though

Theres also another one, rolling body with all new under chassis, 9" blah blah for $15,000....I can tell from the pics that it might be a glass body (could be wrong though)
