I've always been looking around for a US muscle car... I almost had a buick electra 225 (although not muscle) but I couldn't get it rego'd in SA unfortunately without going over the pits.

Anyway, back to my question... is there such thing as a cheap us muscle car anymore? Seems like every chev is getting more and more expensive as more people are getting into them. I'd love an el camino, but there prices seem over the top these days.

Unless you know someone that can bring you over cheap car from the states.. I don't think you'll find one here.. But be prepared to do allot of work on it..

You can always fork out allot of money on a "completed" car, but prices on them are jumping up regularly.. it's hard to find a cheap example..

Keep looking.. took me nearly a year to find something i was willing to spend on...

Also try picking a non "popular" model... :p that’s what I thought I was doing when I bought my camaro...

*P.S. keep checking ebay US ;)

to answer your question...... no anything desirable is way expensive really only the not too popular stuff is affordable! Things like 70 nova's and stuff are reasonably priced but in time they will go up too

I have friends in the states that regularly see absolute bargain basement vette's and mustangs etc. The $$ are in the shipping and restoration...

If you ever go to the States on holidays... go someplace like Alabama or Georgia... You'll cry at the possibilities tempting you..

depends on your definition of "cheap"

Mustangs and stuff can be had for a few grand...... but they really aren't worth a lot unless they are something special I guess you gotta set yourself a budget and work with it....

There are many cars that are down south in places like Georgia or in the Tennessee mountains that are owned by older people and you can get them for a song. There are many shipping companies that are popping up just for transportation reasons as EBay has really opened up on auctions on these classics.

True this....but you really gotta be there.... after mine and many others experiences I would never buy a car sight unseen.... Unless I know the person doing this!

Shipping to Aus is generally around $3K give or take some

Totally agree with you on this..

If your going to pay so much money for a car, spend and extra couple of thousand and take a trip, you can make a hoiliday out of it to keep the miss's happy ;) .. or find some one you trust to have a look for you, and get you plenty of happy snaps, don't rely on the ones provided to you by the seller...

Some peoples idea of "immaculate/good condition" is a bit off.....

You can still find bargains…but they are getting fewer as people are catching on to the money that can be made…

A person who I work with constantly brings cars over…he has a contact in Texas and California that checks out any cars he brings over…his Californian contact is called Claus at www.checkpoint66.com/ who’ll charge a fee ($500 US) to check out the car for you and give you a detailed report on it…he can then even organise the shipping for you…if I remember correctly he can even source a car for you to match you budget.
The guy at my work has used him a few times and has had note one issue…worth making contact if serious about it…
I know I was interested in getting a Harley through him till my conscious kicked in and stuffed up my plans…damn me!!!

Another option would be possibly a trans-am…they’re still fairly cheap and look awesome!! Family member of ours bought one for dirt cheap (already converted to RHD as well) and my god does it look great!!!

spot on! A happy wife is a happy life LOL

If anyone does need help I have friends on the east and west coast ..... nothing in between though (probably best you don't buy from there anyways)

Can find anything just about subject to Budget:p

Last year I went to PA with my friend to look at a Shelby GT500KR..... Oh yeah...I'll try and get him to email the pics to me!

Better some friends than no friends though:D

A mate of my old man brings a few cars in here and there and I still think there are bargains to be had.The last one he bought in a 67 mustang, completely original unrestored in excelent condition owed him just on $8500.

But he went over and purchased a couple others at the same time so he had the piece of mind that he knew what he was buying!
