Hi ,
just new here. needing some info and I'm sure it's been posted before so please bear with me. I'm needing to put a set of Caltracs or Oztracks on my 67 camaro ( 9inch and standard monoleaf). does anyone know of any performance differences between the 2? Does anyone know who sells Caltracs in Australia? I had read somewhere of someone buying tem from "Racecar Enginering"in Brisbane. Can't find any track of them on the net. I've located where to buy the Oztracks from in WA. Price of Caltracs in USA are $330 us plus frieght. Oztracks are around $660 plus frieght to Melbourne so the prices should be similar. Just want to use the best application . I'ts a street/strip car and runs consistent very low 11's. Once I hit the tens I'll be a very happy chappy and that'll be fast enough for this car. maybe will even buy a racecar if the speed bug really bites. incidently the camaro runs a 468ci, full manual powerglide 3800 stall, 3.7 9inch and 9" slicks. Have severe traction problems. Any info would be much appreciated fellas.

Well I am more than likely going to fabricate my own Cal Tracs system..... the main thing is make sure the ones you buy have a good quality chro-moly rod end not just steel..... I too am staying with mono leafs as most guys running cal tracs have had best sucsess with mono leaf springs..... :) They hook hard and the car drives straight.... I give Cal Tracs big thumbs up!

Slapper bars:eek: maybe if you're running a ratrod or some vintage style of gasser deal. From what I've gleaned lately, Caltracs and split-monos are the go,guys in the States are running 8's and late 7's on them :D

So your saying a single leaf is better with these? not the stock single i assume...
I won't be running any of these (don't plan on doing much racing :p) and any cars running single leaf springs i've been in are terrible in the rear when driving... how can they be better for racing?

Steve it is more so about correct spring rate...... Really you have to weigh the rear end of your car on some scales to get the correct spring rates...
I know for my boss's XYGT it needed to have about 200Lbs of spring pressure.....you can check this by turning the spring ass about (arch in the air) add weight until it drops an inch ( stand a straight edge up next to it) and if it say drops an inch with 180Lb's well there you have it..... :) 180Lb's it is!

Thanks Rodent for the racecar website - I had done an extensive search on google and couldn't find a trace of it. Who would've thought just to punch in racecarengineering.com.au and see if it comes up - Duh!! Hopefully they'll have the Caltracs to sell.

I imported Caltracs myself from the makers Calvert Racing. Cost $450 all up to my door. The makers of Oztracs must be making a nice profit at $660 and they're made here

i bought caltracks from qld $600 to my door in WA from race car engineering. im running mono leaf. my car isnt sorted power wise yet but they definetly lift the rear on take off. the other good one to look into is Mr Gasket slider bars i was told. anyone else heard of them?
i cursed the day i fitted mine though at home. not realising it still had the original press fit front bushes in the leaf spring. what a prick of a job getting them out.
