This is going to take me a while to get all pics and info up so bare with me as I update this thread.

It all started some time ago now....... for as long as I can remeber I liked these cars but more and more it was buggin me and finally I gave in I had to have one!
I couldn't help looking at cars like this and not get a wood LOL.
http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/2561/dsc01923001dd6.jpg

September 2004
I make a deal to purchase this 69 Camaro from USA it was located in the desert of California apparently from Arizona before that.

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/3739/01611amo4.jpg

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8020/01314adm6.jpg

I never would have thought it would be september 2005 before the car was finally loaded up and shipped over....

There it sits in a shipping yard in Longbeach CA
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/2421/x4405fk8.jpg

It gets loaded up with another 69 (which I later sold off) a 68 camaro (friend of mine) a funny car (yes one of them) and a whole heap of resto parts rims etc etc!!

Late october 2005
The car finally arrives and while I can't seem to find any pictures I think I know why..... it's nothing like expected....It needs lots of work but me being me wasn't going to give in that easy so the first weekend we had it off came the front end sheetmetal and we started paint stripping it!

The front stripped down
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3737/dsc01057os6.jpg

Paint stripped
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/1006/dsc01062qc0.jpg

It's at this stage we are able to get a good idea of where we're going with this whole project this thing is getting a 'full' resto and nothing short of that!

The parts list includes some of the following.

All new front sheetmetal
Wilwood Brakes
18 Billet Boyd codington Magneto's
tricked up 10 bolt 3.55 gears, HD cover, Auburn posi
all new interior new rubbers chrome trim etc etc
Fresh 350SBC
the list goes on!

November 2005
Body repairs start its going to be a long process and at the end of november I am off to the sates for almost a month but we haul ass considering........

We need to repair the floor in two places both the drivers side(its staying LHD) and the passenger rear floor

The rear already had a section done but lapped over so we trimmed it nicely and fitted the same one back in.
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/4562/honeymoonnovdec2005999hm1.jpg

The front one removed note: we also have to put a toe board section in!- We had to airfreight these straight out of the states.
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/5530/honeymoonnovdec20051001xt4.jpg

Note in this pic how crappy the job was when they put the replacement section in! I would not let something like this go.
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6034/dsc01050rr6.jpg

We get repairg the major bits and use as much metal in this car as possible we weren't going to do no Bog Job LOL
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/6564/dsc01099xx0.jpg

Out with the motor
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/2003/dsc01604ur6.jpg

Ready to hit the 1/4's with some High Fill
http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/2458/dsc01615pb2.jpg

High filled! Yeah
http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/9254/dsc01639ub5.jpg

Needed to do this for some inspiration! LOL

And how much can the 10bolts hold? would it be worth doing mine up? As the only real other option i see is getting a 9"...

The 10 bolts are pretty strong with the right gear... I guess it depends on whether you are going to race it or not? I don't intend on beating the sh*t out of it;) so the 10 bolt will do fine for me.

Color? Yep sure have Ill try snap some pics of the grille its painted already

I am waiting on the sandblaster to do my subframe  f*ck me it's been there for a month already and nothings happened:mad:

I'll update this thread shortly... just had a busy weekend!

You should have just done your subframe yourself.. would've been quicker :p

As for the diff.. i kinda plan on "testing" the motor... a few time :p ... If i can find a builder that can kinda guarantee it won't go *bang* i might use the 10 bolt i've got, but might be safer to find a 9" in the meantime...

Well your allot further than i am in your build.. you can come and help me finish mine when your done :p

and yeah throw up some more pics...

I'll help ya anytime! anytime I can this is just let me know if you need anything tips parts a hug? LOL rah rah etc etc etc. you know what I mean I was in Melbourne with my wife weekend just gone..... I like it there...

Thanks for the kind words! :D

The way things are looking this car will sold once completed :( I am finding it a little hard to juggle all these projects! Also I gotta get me my wife and son a house ASAP.....So unfortunately there won't be a lot of time for us to enjoy this car but on the bright side we still have our pro street project I am gonna bust a move on that next year with any luck!

Damn sorry to hear the news Kurt!! Thats a shame about all that hard work going into it...you gotta hate the ugly side of money...

But i suppose a house for the family is the sensible thing to do...reminds me of my dad when we where all little wiper-snappers long ago, he had the chance to buy his boss's old vintage ferrari or a house for all us when we where kids...but of course he chose the house...he reminds me of that story constantly, not sure if he regrets it now though, lol!!!

looking good.. progress seems to be going well.. well done!
looks like i need to get my arse into gear and catch up :p

What did you spray the undercarage with? a noise reducer?

You keeping the original control arm assembly gear? i've been looking at the newer stuff (tubular style) as far as i can tell only difference is they look better.... but for the price...

And seen the new (well not so new) d/b spindals? set-up to help lower the front a few inches more?

Front end components will stay stock except lowered springs and shocks but I am adding Wilwood big brakes all round! :D

My pro street will have all the adjustable tubular arms and stuff....... there really isn't the need on this car for them though.......

The undercarriage is done with K&H C-Gaurd it's awesome stuff you just gotta get (if you don't have it that is) the application gun its only bout $30 and does cavity wax and stuff too!!!

Make sure you get C Gaurd cos its waterbased and easy to clean

As I found out good prep work is a must!!!!

feel free to ring me if you need any thing Steve...!

yeah i've learnt from past projects it's all in the prep work.. you can have the best spray painter, but if the foundations of the re-spray havn't been laid down properly it will all fall apart..

And thanks for the tip on C-Guard, i'll make some calls over the next few days..

I know it's useless without pics but we are getting damn close to finishing up on our end of the deal for the time being...... we hit inside the trunk up with some 2K high fill to seal any bare metal and it have C-gaurd applied on this saturday...... then we will move back to underneath and basically do the same to rear half of the floors which it seems like its taken forever to prepare for the C-garud......

It is scheduled to go to the paint shop at the end of this month...... that being March 2007 :)

I will snap some pics on the weekend!

speaking of pics I still have to post tug in the park ones but we have computer problems at home..........

SirGeo
02-03-2007, 10:17 AM
Wow.. sounds like it's going ahead nicely for you... here i am still screwing around with trying to put it back together :p

Are you getting it sprayed all together? or panels off and then assembling it?

EAT-30T
02-03-2007, 11:23 AM
It all will need to be dummy assembled to check fitment of the aftermarket parts and I'd say all the door shuts and inner edges of the panels painted and then masked and the whole outside painted at once..... then mask up for the hockey stick stripes which will be done in a metallic white and then put under clear so there is no edge! :)

I'll roll it out tommorrow with any luck and get some crrent pics!

SirGeo
02-03-2007, 01:00 PM
Yeah i have in 2 minds about how to spray it.. I'm going to be assembling to test fitment, and then if i should strip and send out for spraying.. flow coating etc... pieces is better.. Edges, door jams, interior etc i'll be painting myself first so thats no issue...

But then i know inevitably i'll end up scratching it putting it all together again once it is painted :p

I'll see what the spray painter says...

And yeah get some current pics of yours... And when you order shims, let me know i might get youto put in a few extra for me :p

The parts I have for this car would easily take another car space in my garage and thats not laying em out that's compressing it! LOL

Andy's Restorations is in Caringbah/Taren point its one of them areas on the border.. but I'm pretty certain its technically Taren point. :)

Ph: 9524 8899

Let me say Andy is very well setup for this type of work and the shop is layed out accordingly... Their schedules are spot on and there work is very good.. Price wise I'll say he is by no means cheap but by the same token not expensive or unreasonable.... Simply a case of "you get what you pay for!" You pay the $$$ but you get the results!!!

I must say at this stage of the game I would highly recommend Him! Andy has been a customer of our shop for years so I been dealing with him for quite some time now... In hindsight I should have sent it to him alot earlier in the piece... but that's life and you live and learn!

If you want something in particular you go to someone who specialises in that field... I mean if you want good quality bread you go to a baker shop not a supermarket and so forth....

Thanks for the advice on Andy's. Gotta be the cleanest paint shop I have ever seen. I will certainly keep him in mind when I eventually get to paint, and maybe go meet him at some and get some advice on preparation.

I looked back through the thread, and it looks like you did your own stripping, undercoat, high fill, blocking etc. Have I got that right?

Did you hand strip, soda blast (the place at Taren Pt), or dip the body?

Cheers.

That body work looks excellent! Even better with the paint on it. You must be feeling really good about the progress in the last few weeks.

It looks like the LS1 Nats will be incredibly well attended. Heard of so many people finalising cars, tunes etc in the last couple weeks.

Hope it is safe for them on the road, and great competition on the track....next year maybe. 600HP though an auto.....mmmmmmm.......:p

EAT-30T

Clearance looks good... I like to have big drop (within reason) without tyre clearance issues ZERO Scrub... I'm glad I didn't go any bigger in size...

A car with the right stance can create the illusion of a bigger wheel diameter...

I tend to agree, white can look fantastic; we have a 67 SS RS Convertable as well with Bolero Red and originally Deluxe Pearl White interior with black piping, now redone in white leather, my business partner has actually sourced new Pearl White and is looking to return it to this interior, will look fantastic.

I have seen the dark plum color in a 67/68 Camaro with white inside and it looks ballsy.
