Yeah when i saw it was sitting i the weeds.
Speed humps would have sucked, even more with some people in the back.
Keep the pics coming mate.
Cool car Brett, my brother also has a 64 belair which is currently stripped and was going to be getting a full rebuild. The vortec will definately be a good upgrade as a friend of mine has just done the same thing a few months ago in his 65 impala and was rapped with the result.Hope you have the same result mate.

My wife goes with the flow, when she married me she knew i was a car person & she has been through it with me before, and she is with me all the way this time as well...quite happy to get her hands dirty when needed...and quite happy to store car parts where they can not be damaged or scratched..by kids or animals......
keep on cruisin

Interesting to see whats in the background of this pic. Later queries about:
"Did you end up raising it"
"wife.. quite happy to get her hands dirty when needed"
"Been busy Brett"
I Had to laugh.
On a serious note. Are you running power steering with the pump on the lower left side? The timing mark will not be visible and there are no after market timing pointers to suit that style timing cover, last time I checked. An option is to take off that timing chain cover and replace it with the one off the old motor.

Just for future reference if you use a HQ Holden V8 radiator you can also use the HQ style plastic shroud instead of that ugly half 44 gallon drum that 61-64 chevs come with from the factory.
The HQ V8 radiator lines up on two bolts but you have to drill two new holes.
Also that clutch fan is great but it should actually protrude from the shroud 1/4 to 1/2 fan ,it will make it work much better as the airflow tends to cavitate when the fan is fully inside the shroud.

Well done, you would think that with all that space you would not have any problems with the exhaust hitting other parts.
Any other plans for the car or its now for driving it.
I remember seeing a pic somewhere, *joke* there were three guys in the engine bay eating a meal with the engine as well.
