Hi all, this isn't a u.s muscle car but i know a few here have done ls conversions and i hope the info helps others too as i'm guessing similar sumps and mods are going to be the case for u.s cars.
I am putting a gen 3 and auto into a hz ute, quite a few people told us we needed a ve sump as its a rear hanging sump. I got one off ebay, took it out of the box, these are huge sumps. Could tell by looking at it there was no chance of it fitting. I got it fairly cheap and came with everything so we decided to cut it up. With the mods it looks like a camaro (gen 4 camaro i think?) gen 3 sump so am guessing one would have bolted straight in, too bad they are not easy to find second hand in australia.
My question is, the sump has a valve near the oil filter. I think its for the displacement on demand to regulate the oil pressure? So i should be able to just block it up for the gen 3?

I'm not a member there, just had a search on ls1tech. looks to be the d.o.d valve, i don't see why i can't block it. The old sump doesn't have it.

I wouldn't be guessing or putting the question to an internet forum to be honest.
You need to know.

There are several books on these engines. Here are 3.

Cheers steve, I know what you are saying.
My question should be, the sump I have removed doesn't have the valve so its not needed. Would there be any benefit keeping it?
The valve regulates the oil pressure for engines with displacement on demand and active fuel management.
I can see it would be helpful for maintaining oil pressure but long term could leak or fail reducing pressure.

Hey Dan. Hopefully someone can answer your question/s but I am not familiar with the LS engines beyond the odd magazine write up.. :)

Cheers, its no big deal. Like I said, the sump that i have taken off the engine doesn't have it. So will just block it up. One less thing to worry about.
