Yeah Dave,
that is the one, next to the golf course. It looks like it will be a good day with the circuit events as well as the show and shine.

Car Clubs and Parking Allocation

Pit area carports :

- Pontiac Car Club

- Pony Car Club

- Qld Chevrolet Car Club

- Kustoms of Australia

- Gold Coast Musclecar Assoc.

- Qld Corvette Club

Paddock area :

- Thunderbirds of Queensland

- Mustang Owners Club

- Corvettes Downunder Car Club

- Resurrected Relics Car Club

- Studebaker Car Club

- 55-56-57 Shoebox Car Club

- Graffiti Rodders

All paddock area clubs will be in the area between the Control Tower, enclosed garages and Lakeside Room double storey building, with the exception of the Resurrected Relics, which will be behind the Control Tower, on the eastern side of the tunnel exit, as requested, and the Graffiti Rodders, which will be on the elevated area heading west towards the Karousel.

The parking plan is included with this email.

Parking for non-club cars

Queensland Raceways would like, where possible, to match non-club cars to the corresponding marque clubs e.g. Studebakers to the Studebaker Club. As a result, overflow room is being allocated to single-marque clubs, on the basis of expected demand from the types of car. This won’t affect multi-marque clubs. Other marques that are not represented by a club (e.g. Oldsmobile) have been allocated an area too. As the event is not just static, there will be a lot of movement of cars between the infield and the track, resulting in a degree of flexibility being required on the subject of parking.

Independence Day Cruise

The Thunderbirds of Queensland will run this complementary event, which will finish at Lakeside for the All American. Their 12th annual cruise will commence at the park n’ ride on Miles Platting Road, Eight Mile Plains (UBD 201 N18), meeting from 0800 for a 0830 departure. Many of your members who live on the southside or Gold Coast may wish to use this Gateway cruise as a means of getting to Lakeside for the day.

Gate Entry procedure

The road through the Golf Course is currently being upgraded, to full two lane width. Entry on the day will be via the large white gates, not the far gates where the road ends. Due to the roadwork, it is dusty at the moment, so you might like to bring some cleaning gear for once you are parked. The area is being swept during the week, and being watered late on Saturday.

Four ticket sellers are being set up, to serve four cars side by side. You will receive a handout, including timetable, people’s choice voting slip, map and other info. The gate entry fee is now $20 per car, flat fee - no additional fee for more than two people.

Path to display infield

From the gate, all cars will continue straight ahead to join the perimeter road around the ‘eastern loop’. If you have a car on a trailer, you will be directed to the left just after the entry to unload, as car carrying trailers won’t go through the tunnel. Spectators who don’t want to go around the back, can also head to the left to various vantage points.

After going around the eastern loop, head down to the tunnel entry, near the old white footbridge. A marshal will be here to direct American cars (only) through the tunnel. A supplementary display of Australian and other non-American classic cars will be set up on the driver training centre course, to the right at the tunnel intersection. Other spectator cars will park in other areas at the back of the course. Pedestrian access will be through the tunnel.

Once your American car has gone through the tunnel (queue outside, rather than inside), another marshal will direct you to the club or other parking areas. Please advise them of the club you are in. A map showing club locations will be included in the gate handout.

Club Areas

These will be marked out on Saturday, and clubs can set up in the afternoon from 2.30pm if they wish. Clubs are welcome to bring trailers with a BBQ and other club equipment. Trailers of this type will fit through the tunnel (provided they aren’t too high). In addition to BBQ’s, participants can bring a picnic lunch too. Two food outlets will be open on site - the Lakeside Café, and the kiosk in the pits. Queensland Raceways have also requested clubs to bring American decorations, bunting, flags etc., to add to the flavour of the day. Some of your members may be interested in dressing up as Elvis, Uncle Sam, Disney characters etc. As club promotion is one of the key aspects of the day, please prepare your publicity materials, flyers, membership forms, spare newsletters/ magazines, merchandise etc. If you have an event coming up, particularly within the next few months, this will be a great opportunity to publicise this too.

Commentary

Tune to 87.6FM for announcements, general info and plenty of great American music! In addition to your car radio, you may like to bring portable radios to set up in your club area. Several speakers are also being set up on the deck of the Lakeside room. We have put together a promotion on all clubs participating, largely from club websites. This will also be heard over the airwaves.

Traders and other displays

These are being set up in the roundabout area, as you exit the tunnel. Large traders will be set up on the Saturday, others can access the site before 0800 on Sunday to set up. Contact Neil at Queensland Raceways on 1800 722 377 or 07 5461 9100 or to email neil@qldraceways.com.au to confirm this.

The Trans Am racing series will have a display with several American race cars, while a number of new American car converters will be on display, including a couple of new Corvettes from Performax.

Thunder Cruise Session No.1

A briefing session will be held at the Lakeside Room at 0900. Although all drivers won’t be on site by then, there will be sufficient numbers for this purpose. Please assemble outside the building, where Raceways staff will address you from the deck area upstairs.

Open cruise session No.1 will commence at 0930. Drivers are asked to show their Driver’s License when entering the track, which will be at the gate at the ‘kink’ on the front straight (access via paddock, in front of Lakeside Room). This session goes for an hour, and you can enter, exit or re-enter at any time. You return via pit lane to your parking area. If you need to refuel, the nearest service station is the Red Dog at the water tower corner at Kallangur.

Short Course Events (Tri-carthlon)

Three competitive track events will be run, over a one hour time allocation from 1030 to 1130 - a hillclimb, eighth mile drag race and a slalom. The three events will be held simultaneously, as they will be on different parts of the racetrack. Competitors will enter the track at Hungry Corner, compete in the slalom (on Eastern Loop), then the drag race (front straight), then the hillclimb (Karousel to Footbridge) and return to the infield at Hungry.

The events will be timed, with trophies for each event, and one for the best overall result, the ‘tri-carthlete’ of the day. Only 60 cars can enter this event, due to the time limit.

To register, go to the Control Tower, AS SOON AS YOU ARRIVE. Entries will close at 1015, or when all places are taken. $20 will be the competition fee, and you will receive a wristband. Please bring a helmet, have long clothing and covered footwear. A dozen helmets are also available for hire at the Control Tower.

At 1015, the entrants are required to attend a briefing in the Driver’s Briefing Room. Following this, they will return to their cars and head down the access road at the back of the pit garages to the Hungry Corner gate for the 1030 start.

Volunteers from three clubs will assist in starting, timing and recording the events. These volunteers (from the Qld Corvette Club : Slalom, Qld Chevrolet Club : Drag Race, Mustang Owners Club : Hillclimb) will be required for a meeting at the Driver’s Briefing Room (beside the Control Tower) at 0945, where they will be given the equipment and information necessary for the task. In preparation for the start, they will need to be in place around 1015 at their designated area.

Club Cruise Sessions

Seven club cruise sessions have been purchased. The timetable for these is :

1130 Pontiac Car Club

1145 Mustang Owners Club

1300 Qld Corvettes Club

1315 Resurrected Relics

1330 Gold Coast Musclecars

1345 Corvettes Downunder

1400 Qld Chevrolet Club

This will also be in the program. Each club needs to be ready about 15 minutes before their nominated time. Two track entries will be used - the Control Tower gate for clubs in the pit area, and the Kink gate for clubs in the paddock area. Be ready at this gate at the start time, and show your Driver’s License as you enter.

The leader of each club cruise (one rep from each club) is required for a briefing session at the Driver’s Briefing Room at 1000. This will only be 5 minutes.

Club cruises are for the club members, and their invited guests. It’s up to the club to determine the latter, a good way to encourage people to join up, treat your friends in other clubs or just make your club look bigger!

Trophy Session

This will be held around 1415, following the end of the club cruises, and will include the tri-carthlon and people’s choice award. It will be held outside the Lakeside Room.

Thunder Cruise Session No.2

Open cruise session No.2 is due to commence at 1430. This will be operated identically to session No.1.

Publicity

A special photo shoot has been organised at Lakeside tomorrow for the Courier Mail. We believe a feature will be run in the motoring section of this Friday’s edition.

This is the last update prior to the event. Have a safe trip and see you Sunday for what will be a historic day for American cars in the region - the first ‘new’ All American.
