Hi guys and girls.
I have just bought a new project so thought i would start a build thread. I was going to rebuild my WB ute but thought a camaro would be a better investment.
Specs on the 69 are :
Engine: 572 ci All alloy Donovan big block
Chassis: Art Rasmussen subframe with C4 A arms and spindles, 4 link Currie
9in with alloy centre section
Wheels: 18" CCW 3 piece Michelin Pilots 335 rears 265 fronts
Brakes: Baer Front 14" 4 piston Rear 12" 2 piston
Drivetrain: T56 6 spd, Centreforce clutch, 4" carbon fibre tailshaft
Future plans are to convert it to RHD, finish off the fab work, and then tear up the track

Luke, you bought that. I was watching that car over on PT.com. That thing is seriously wicked and going to be one super quick car
Yet another wicked big block 1st gen in WA, there must be something in the water over there
Welcome aboard
That thing would be an animal on the track

That's the first time I've seen it and all I can say is Holy S***T. That is awsome. The other end of the scale from a WB ute. Another one I can't wait to see up and running. That's a good amount of rubber on the back too. Nice one Luke.
Welcome Luke, your new 69 is wicked!! Excellent build up over on Lateral G. A little excited! Bit of an under statement there mate ha ha

I'd think hard about converting it.
Not sure about you chev blokes but converting a US chrysler to RHD actually devalues it.
As a rough guide, all things being equal,a RHD pulls around 5 grand less than the same thing in LHD.
So why spend all that money converting it to make it worth less?
I've got 3 LHD cars, shiploads of RHD cars and 2 LHD converted to RHD cars. The conversions, although good, just don't feel like they should.

Hi Ken
Im not too fussed about resale as i cant see myself selling in the near future. Maybe if it was an original car then i would maybe leave it left hook but as its far from original, right hook its going to be

Your car looks the goods Luke.
I think you have the right attitude, you can't get into cars for resale value alone, there is a part of owning a car like that that is "priceless".

And if the conversion is done by a good shop it will drive perfect.
I wish mine was like that!! Fun machine for sure! :D

Thanks Nev and Dave for your input. I just dont like the idea of driving the camaro with the wheel on the left. I do plan on driving the car further than just the local shops or cruise and would feel much safer on a country road being rhd and the right hand doesnt change gears as good as the left one does ha

Please do yourself a favour and hook up with some lefthook guys and spend a couple of hours driving on the other side before you decide to pisss away cash on a left to right conversion........It's really not that bad :)

Ive pretty much made my mind up about the conversion. I know its probably not that bad but thats just how i feel about it
Hi Rowan
Thanks for the comment. Doesnt look as tough as your corvette though. I havent told my old boy that i have bought it but i want him to drive and me navigate in road rallys and i want to start getting into cicuit racing and auto cross. I may take it to the strip once to see what it will run but thats it.

Cheers , na think i will try and get rego after what happened to ben on sunday arvo after the show. He got pulled over and they pretty much new that he wasnt getting it fixed . They new about the show and saw the trophy sitting on his seat and busted him. They put a yellow on it which is dumb cos its unregistered and took his permit off him. Had to get it towed from the Sandringham. HaHa he has had a pretty good run with it but i want to try for rego see what happens.

Luke have you got all the import approval paperwork done? the past rego on the car etc? I failed to do it the first time I imported a car and wow did it cost me:eek: the bloody government wankers wanted to cut my car up or ship it back:eek:
On another note those rims need to be painted another colour as they just dont look right IMO.
If you need any paintwork done on the car make sure you give me a buzz so i can give you a quote, actually you should get Ben to give me a call as my bro said he wants to paint his ute and i would definetly be keen to do it.

Yeah all the import stuff is sorted just got the long wait now.
Yep they dont look right hey. I think its the black lip and silver centre, normally would be the other way around. I will prob change the colours just have to decide maybe a titanium all over not sure yet.
Ben is going to paint his ute but i think its already booked in at Rowe and Sons for sometime in June but i will let him know you are keen.

Hey guys, so almost a year since I updated the build. Have worked out what direction im going with it and have ordered a bunch of parts from Jay at Sppedtech Performance. Jay has been an absolute pleasure to work with and has helped me out a ton. Lost count of the back and forth emails and phone calls. Cheers jay.
So with the parts almost on there way I thought i would get a head start on the tear down. Dad came down this morning and helped me pull the car apart which was suprisingly easy. Im sure its going to be alot harder putting it back together.
Ive still got to pull the rear end out along with the chassis rails but that will be in a few weeks. Here is a few pics from this morning. Cheers

Cheers guys. Yep you and me both Rowan, its been killing me every time i open the shed.
Dean, Ive bought a complete subframe from Speedtech which they have made RHD for me. Its their first one in RHD so pretty stoked about that. Ive also bought their Torque arm setup so the rear clip will also be going.
Ive also bought a full floor, trunk floor. and chassis rails to go in so looking forward to fitting all that up.
Hey Justin, im doing just about everything bar the paint and panel. As much as i would love to paint it a new colour just cant justify it yet.
So next on the list is a new set of tyres, Bear brakes front and rear, radiator and a few other items and some new inner hoops for my rear rims. I got the tyres stripped off today and the rims measure 15" wide. I only need a 12" rim to run a 335 tyre so a call to CCW shoud sort that out.
Cheers guys
Looking good Luke, you re not mucking around with this bad boy!! Good on ya mate!

So, I've done a little bit of work on the Camaro lately. All my parts arrived a few weeks ago and started fitting up the full floor. Still got the tubs, boot floor, and chassis rails to go. I stuffed up and ordered a boot floor thats not really going to do the job for me so I've got Jay sending me another one over along with brakes, tyres, radiator, harness and some other bits and pieces.
I figured this would be a good time to change up the colour of my wheels. I've kept the gloss black lips but had the centres powdercoated satin black. Cant wait to get some new tyres on them and bolted back up. Pretty happy with the new look.

Thanks Ray, I wasn't happy with the subframe having those checkouts in the rails and also changing to RHD meant sourcing another rack. I spoke with Jay from Speedtech and for not alot more $ than what I sold the old one for I've got a brand new sub in RHD ready to go.
