G'day,
I just stumbled onto this site and immediately joined up today. Looks like a good place to hang out, as I'm a big fan of Muscle Cars.
Last year, I signed up with Borgeson Products of Torrington Connecticut, www.borgeson.com , to become the Australian distributor for their steering products. What Borgeson have recently released is a range of integral power steering boxes to suit LHD US Muscle Cars, and these have been selling quite well throughout the United States.
What many people don't know is that back in the sixties, when the original owner (of what we now call a muscle car) ticked the "Power Steering" box on the order form, all he got was the standard manual steering box but with a power ram attached to the steering linkage under the engine, and a power steering pump and four hoses, all hanging under the engine.
These systems were far from ideal, giving full boost at all road speeds, and many owners found them quite "twitchy." Until quite recently, there was no option but to put up with it or go back to manual steering
Tha'ts when Borgeson came into the picture with a modern integral power steering box initially for the '55 to '57 Chevs. This was a modern Saginaw box with both the power ram and the control valve built into it, and sales really took off.
Just over 12 months ago, Borgeson released a version for the C2 and C3 Corvettes, which used the old power ram set-up from 1962 to 1983. That piqued my interest and as a result of enquiring about them, I made the decision to apply for the Australian distributorship and, once successful, bought up a lot of stock.
In July last year, a version for the 1964 to 1970 Mustangs was released and I have sold several of them to muscle car owners from Mareeba to Adelaide. I also have new boxes for cars that came originally equipped with integral boxes, such as the 1965 onwards GM A bodied cars as well as Camaros, Firebirds, etc.
As well as the integral boxes, I also have a good range of Saginaw pumps and mounting brackets, rag joints and hose kits, etc. Have a look at my website, www.pro-steer.com.au and see if there's something there that you need. For example, a Corvette C3 integral power steering box costs just $595 all up, a Mustang box $715.
I'm a member of the Chevrolet Car Club of Victoria Inc. and have a 1974 Corvette and a Holden Commodore VH 308, but I'll leave the R&P on the latter.:D
Thanks for reading, I hope that I can help some of you with your steering problems.
