There's always more to the story, but here is what is on the main page of the C P website.

http://www.calderpark.com.au/home.shtml

"Fact one
The Easternats under the direction of Jon Davison, the event Promoter, is responsible for the cancellation of the event.

Fact two
Calder Park, the venue owner, was only notified at 5:57pm on Monday evening (March 15) via Email of the event cancellation.

Fact three
Calder Park considers the cancellation of the event to be premature.
Calder Park management is willing to proceed with the event should certain contractual agreements be met.

Fact four
Calder Park is generally apologetic to any persons that have entered or who were looking forward to this coming event.

Calder Park is concerned that the blame for the cancellation has been directed at Calder Park and Bob Jane.

The Easternats cancellation is the direct responsibility of Jon Davison and the Easternats Management and their unwillingness to proceed with the event.

All complaints should be directed to Jon Davison, the Easternats Promoter and Manager.

Ian MacArthur,
General Manager,
Calder Park"

Yeah not sure if we can lay all the blame on Jon..

Rumour has it that BJ wants Jon to pay for some extra upgrades that BJ was meant to do as part of the agreement to use the venue.. Again, just a rumour

I think there are a lot of things flying around, and only time will tell what the true story is.

I have a feeling that it "may" still happen, again word on the grape vine is that Calder is still "technically" booked by "Easternats".. could still happen...

P.S.

I doubt that you need to look to anyone else but Bob Jane for the cancellation of this event. No I don't have the facts, just making an assumption.

and I base this on the drag racing circus Bob Jane created here in South Australia due his mis-management of Adelaide International Raceway. I have lost count of the number of times over the last 10+ years that Bob Jane and Co have announced plans to reopen Adelaide International Raceway to drag racing.

and lets not talk of the past failed attempt by an consortium to buy the track due to Bob Jane backing out of the deal at the last minute.

I am also told sections of the Adelaide International Raceway now have weeds growing out of it.

He is not a loved man in South Australian drag racing circles.

We could change it all this weekend if Labor is ousted.

..well..what happened last night... the debate is over... before it begins in the police, the public and the media's eyes..... It has and will collectively set back the image of all street car driving enthusiasts for years ...not just in Oakleigh or Melbourne.. but nation wide.
Stand by for more police roadside inspections, more clamp downs, more repression - less opportunity. A better way would have been to announce and organize a major boycott BJ Stores using the media and the car clubs... but no...

Is this just a regular break-in, theft and vandilism?
..or is this breaking-in/trashing actually a reaction to the man Bob Jane and the way he (doesn't) run his race tracks?

This crap happens all the time. What evedence is there to say that this is some sort of pay-back or protest?

From what I can gather this started as a "peaceful" protest in relation to the cancellation of the Easternats.
It appears it didn't stay peaceful.
Either way its a low act taking it out on a bloke just trying to run a business ( i.e the franchisee of BJ)

Never agreed more..... Those idiots out there that night destroyed what could have been seen as a 'bunch of genuine guys showing how much the Nats mean to them by a peaceful protest'. Rather, it turned into a bunch of "Hoons" tearing up the town, showing those organisers alll the more reason why they should call off the event. And if they think it will stop there.... think again, I can imagine that those hooligans have just cost us a lot more than one event... I agree that there will be a major crack down now and it will be directed straight at 'Street Machines". So guys and girls be prepared to be pulled up when you hit the streets... They are going to be hunting these guys down like there is no tomorrow. The culprits for this mess should be man enough to hand themselves i, so that the rest of their fellow sportsman can continue on and enjoy the hobbie we all love so much!

I don't think you are too far wrong there.
Most of these tossers wouldn't be able to build a decent car as they wouldn't have the concentration span or would give up when it didn't go their way.
Just happy to make a dick of themselves in clapped out Commodores or Corollas.
I hope they arrest some of them and make an example of them.

I disagree.. I think most are like you & me with the serious lacking of how to go about a protest properly..
I think what happened is disgusting but when the dust settles, I'm almost glad it happened to BJ..
There needs to be more public awareness of what he is doing to the sport.
All non-petrol heads this his track is the answer to all street racing.
I hope this shows how much he is disliked.

I wouldn't like to think I would be associated with that mob.
There must be better ways to bring attention to an issue than wrecking some poor buggers place of business.

Of course.. I'm not saying I condone it in the slightest..
Guys at work asked my where was i on Friday night.. -joking that I was smashing up BJ's. They know I like cars, so instantly I'm associated with thise arseholes. I really don't like that, but that's the way it goes..
Anyway, I kinda pleased that the greater public is becoming aware that he is so disliked.
We've all been complaining about this old fool for years and those who are not into motorsport are completely oblivious as to why.

Everytime a street racing discussion pops up.. "Go to Calder Park" they say.. as if there are no consecutive cancelled race events, they don't charge the Earth for 2 or 3 runs, it's on every weekend or we're fully insured while racing or something..
The public majority really has no idea.

If anything good comes of this. I hope this is an eye opener for those people.

Dunno man, I didn't see much in the general media reporting on "BJ is unliked". No story there. "Car hoons = shameful damage" was the only message :(. And even if it did, what differnce would it make if Joe NonPetrol read that BJ may be hindering more than helping. Stuff all - does not effect them.

And lets not forget that Easternats is really just a place to go & do burnouts - could be held anywhere anytime. So pissing off the guy who is giving Melbs it ONLY access to a quarter mile (allbeit less-than-ideal) is not going to help anything.

More positive actions like the recent Motorvate event to get someone (other than BJ) to pony up funds for a new strip is surely the best approach. Showing the professional side of what an expensive & excitingly competitive sport it is. Stuff like this 'protest' over some Commodore Cousins missing out on a skid just destroys any chance for funding - Be it private or gov't. Why would anyone fork over that kinda setup cash to be associated with those losers?

Send positive messages for positive results. (Or I could be in fairyland :p)

The Easternats cancellation is just another example of a Calder Park cancelled event.
If all tracks in this country were run like he runs Calder and Adelaide, there would be no V8Supercar (except street circuits) or top fuel in this country at all.
Very little off-street drags either.

The car hoons shameful damage wasn't just damaging anything.. It was a BJ store. Theor anger obviously directed at him.

The car hoons shameful damage wasn't just damaging anything.. It was a BJ store. Their anger obviously directed at him. My point is that the general public you speak of doesn't know about the history of cancelled events & don't care. Even the point of the 'protest' was glossed over in the media I saw, so was not 'obvious'. Was just portrayed as a mob smashing some poor local small businessman's* store because they are (supposedly) car fans. And that is what's left in the wider public's mind. They've never even heard of Easternats let alone know that BJ has something to do with the event.

I feel your frustration mate. There's not a person reading this that wouldn't love to see more professionally run drag venues and events for us all. Hence why this over-reaction by a half dozen bored 'badasses' is widely acknowledged as a setback not a step forward. And that sucks for all of us.
There's a better way of doing things ;) We can agree on that at least :D

*The franshisee, not BJ.
