Thanks for the positive comments guys.

A quick run down on the car as promised.

I purchased the car around 6 months ago from a Camaro fan in Victoria Milan Dokic. Many of you will know who he is from his fame as a burnout master in his flamed Camaro "Mentle". He did nothing to the car at all before selling it to me. The car came from the states and is yet to be licensed.

The car isnt a numbers matching item but that didnt bother me.

The car is a genuine 69 RS with the fold down rear seat hide away headlights and Deluxe interior.

The plan was to go the full Pro Touring route initially but my idea changed and I just wanted a clean streeter (long story)

The interior is all original except I have replaced the dash pad and the previous US owner replaced the carpets.

The diff is a 12 bolt, the motor is a stock 350 and the gearbox is a turbo 350.
The brakes are the mind blowing drums all round and un boosted.

I have had the car lowered 2 inches at Wilkinsons Suspension.

I decided to keep the vinyl roof but change the colour of the car from the dead green to a nice vibrant yellow.

The original rims did nothing for me and I purchased a set of 18x7 and 18x8 Weld Phoenix from Armadale Auto Parts(Thanks Plodge)
I have paneled and painted the entire car in just over 3 weeks and I'm just a tad worn out as that was basically all after hours:eek: . I'm a self taught Painter and beater which comes in handy when saving money.

I rushed to get the car to Big Al's car show and therefore didnt get the car finished or licensed in time.

I still need to replace all the front suspension as its old and worn, fit the exhaust system that I bought from Stuart and buy a electric headlight door kit from the states.

The car is for sale if anyone is keen and the price is $50K as is or $55 fully licensed. I'm not fussed if it doesnt sell as my wife has changed her mind and now likes the car:eek: :D

Thanks must also go to Greg from Stripped Bare Blasters as he came to the rescue for me with parts and blasting, Paul for the fender braces and my wife for letting me not come home for 3 weeks:D

My bro will take some more pics soon and I will keep you guys updated at what I do next.

Cheers;)

I agree, i would'nt sell it now that you turned it into a very cool cruiser. Had me fooled as unless your bro stopped me on the way in i would of been looking for a "dead green" car all day :) Get it licensed and have some fun with it Clayton, well at least let the wife have some with it anyway :D Congrats on an awesome car, had me back for a 2nd and 3rd look......

Well done Clayton !!!! I agree it has got to be a keeper

If you can do that transformation over 3 weeks imagine what you could do over 3 years !!! and still get to drive and cruise in an awesome muscle car in the meantime.

Once again WELL DONE it certainly came up a treat, and Jordan, you have again excelled yourself with the photos keep up the good work !!!

Hi Clayton , top work with the 69. Love the look and the wheels suit it well.
At Big Al's i looked closly at your hockey stick stripe and noticed it was a decal.
Could you please let me know
#1 Was that a reproduction from Classics or the like, or was it made here for you?
And #2 Who applied it to you car ?
I have a bumblebee decal from classics and need to find someone to apply it to my 68.
Many thanks in advance
Baz.
p.s. I noticed the sign on the windscreen, and if my friken wife would learn to like yellow cars we may have been reaching for the check book.:D

Thanks for all the great compliments guy's . It was tuff getting the car done in such a short space of time but the end result was well worth it.

Baz the stickers on the car I bought from Canada and a local guy stuck them on. The guy's name is Josh and his number is 0417484710.

Looks good Clayton. Unfortunately I have been extremely busy of late with changing jobs and the new baby on the way (4weeks now), plus doing my shed and flying to site etc...so sorry I haven't had the opportunity to take a look and get onto what we have previously discussed...

But once again you have excelled. I need to get around and check it out in person as I'm sure the pics (even though they are Jordan's :p ) don't do it justice..

Just flew home tonight but only have 3 days off so I need to spend some time with the family.. Will hopefully catch up with you in a bit over a week or so.

Once again, it looks teriffic mate :D

Rather than start a whole new thread I thought I would tack on to the end of Clayton's thread with my plans for the car once I get my hands on it. Clayton hope you don't mind.

Car is now over the pits and licensed.

Now the first thing I am going to do is put it back to it's original green colour (kidding :D).

Nah, the plan generally is to put a drive train in to match the outstanding paint work and then turn my attention to the interior. The goal is to get it ready for the car shows etc next summer.

Over the next few months I will find a healthy big block - aluminium heads, roller cam etc, a high stall T400 to match and freshen the diff as needed. Will also paint the engine bay the same colour as the car and put four wheel discs on it (Wilwood or similar) so it stops in a reasonable distance.

Interior will essentially be stock but again will just freshen it up where needed.

I have already blown the budget I had in mind and I haven't even started

I have started the prep work for the green paint mate and hopefully it will be ready for you by tommorow night:D:D
Seriously though I'm glad the car has gone to a good home and will continue to get the work on it to make it a real standout.
We are all now looking forward to its new additions:)

Cheers,
Clayton.

Small update - things are moving along - doing some of the easy stuff while I sort out the driveline etc.

* New sail panels (original hoodlining is OK)
* New parcel shelf
* Retrimmed rear arm rests & new ashtrays
* New exterior mirrors
* New Grant wooden steering wheel
* Plates "RS69" sitting at DPI waiting for me to pick them up next week.

Hopefully the next update willl be around a ZZ502 :)

Hey Mate,

It is Jordan here, Claytons brother.
I asked about a 502 at Chevpower for you last night.
If you want some info please call them and ask for Jason and let him know it was Clayton Leists old car - they will look after you ;-)

Cheers,
Jordan.

What yellow is that? I was thinking of doing my Firebird when I bought it in the corvette yellow now I have an idea of what it may look like when it’s finished. The car looks pretty shmick think the yellow really extenuates the body lines well. Thats why I chose the colour. You’re a lucky man YT69.

Well I have made a decision on an engine and the block will hopefully be here next week to start machining etc. Have decided to go with a local engine builder rather than a crate.

It's a 540 all aluminium engine of similar spec to the Shaffirof one and I am hoping for similar power - http://www.ultrastreet.net/engines/540_realstreet_lite.asp

All going well should be built and on the engine dyno within 4 - 5 weeks :)

I was impressed when my ex-brother inlaw told me he was waiting on a 502 from the states for his 68 Camaro but 540 whoa. Now thats impressive.

Gday Mitch. Thought I'd register on here after your recomendations. From what I've seen and read the guys on here seem with it and know their stuff.

It's been a while so thought I would post a bit of an update.

Short motor is together and now waiting on some custom length head studs from ARP (2 weeks away) and then the motor should be complete soon after (fingers crossed). Everything else part wise for the motor is here or on it's way. Will get some pics tomorrow.

Besides that, filling our spare room with parts and getting on to a first name basis with DHL and FedEx not much else to report....

Cheers Steve - Yeh siamesed bore - 4.5" with 4.25" stroke (540). Compression will be around 10:1 to 10.5:1 depending on head gasket thickness.

Is that webbing across the valley for strength in alloy blocks?

Yep - it is to try and stop the block flexing around - it also has ribs on the outside of the block as well.

All I will say is that if a car tells you to follow a certain direction I say listen, and you have and the result is evident in the finish, a testament to your hard work, its all been said! but well done.

I heard this car was coming in along with some other items. I visited his home with his chook farmer hill billy mate but he was OS.
