Hi Guy's ,
I just came across the site and thought , Thats a forum i'd be interested in. It's the first forum i have been involved in so you will have to be patient with me.
The build - PLAN B has eventuated from another build i have going , but more on that build later. The car is a 67 Camaro that is built to be driven and set up as a pro-touring camaro. It started life as a LHD 327 car ready for SA rego. About 2 hours after i picked it up it was back to the shed and the dis assembley began. The only things i am going to use is the body ,glass and chrome. A quick run down on PLAN B - It will be RHD with full SA rego and run on pump gas, whipple supercharged all alloy injected 572 BBC, Fatman Fab new subframe, Art morrison triangulated 4 link with a fabricated 9'', Wilwood 13'' 6 spot front and 12'' 6 spot rear. Strange double adjustable coilovers, Strange full floater, Strange centre, 20x12'' billet wheels rear and 18x8'' front. Nitto invo 345/25/20 r and 245/40/18 f , turbo 400 with gear vendors overdrive (makes it a 6 speed). I have set every thing up to handle 1500hp plus. I'm not aiming for that but i'd rather over engineer it. I'll try and post some pic's soon.

Cheers Joel

Chris i'm trying to get some pic's up now. I'm not the most computer friendly person. The build started in the middle of october 2009 and was supposed to be a quick build and get it to summernats. The plan was to buy a car with nice paint and swap out the running gear and do a custom interior. As with all plans they seem to change once you get started. When i was putting in the new rear tri 4 link frame rails and mini tubs i noticed a little rust spot in the inner wheel tub. A pike here and a bang there found that the body had some things not adding up. The car was straight and had a new paint 18months ago that was done in Australia. Anyway it was not as bad as first thought for rust but the rear quarter and tail panel had dents and a bunch of bog. Thats when the Nats race was off. Down to the sand blaster to reveal the demons. So now it's a bunch of body/metal work and new paint. Not that fussed, i'd rather find it now. I'll try and get the pic's up
Cheers Joel

Joel, I'm not sure there is anything like a quick build. My plans, whilst not the same as yours, aren't that far off (BBC, 4 link, Art Morrision front sub, custom interior etc), I'm 3 years into my build so far.....

How to post pics, have a quick read of this
If you still have probs PM me and I can walk you through it in detail

Thanks Joel, was a nice looking car before you started.

When I smoothed my firewall we welded a new plate in, but only for a part of he firewall not the entire firewall. Are you going to run a brake master cylinder on the firewall or hide under the dash? I almost went under the dash but decided against it

Here's a few more, As i find more i'll post them. I started this in October 2009 with a friend who has a performance shop. We both wanted to have a crack at building a car so this is where we started. He can tig weld better than me so i do all the fab work and tack it in to place and he welds it up when he gets a chance in between jobs or when we do the late nights.

Chris , Yep it was a nice car and the plan was to change out the drive line/chassis, change to RHD and get it back on the road. When i started the tubs i found a bit of rust and bog . I decided to take it back to bare metal.

Yeh it's a under dash brake master. I decided to up the thickness of the firewall so that's why we cut it out. It was also better for me as i was going RHD there would have been heaps of fill plates. Ps just had a quick look at your car. Nice work

This is the dash conversion. It's a RHD dash from a 1959 chevy impalla cut and shut to fit. It's had the glove box welded shut to give me more room for the A/C and i moved the wiper motor from the firewall to under the dash. It's got 4 billet specialties A/C vents and the wind screen vent for rego.

No more Astro Ventilation! What are you doing for air circulation within the car without opening windows?

We are going to put another vent in the side with a different open/close than the factory. If that doesn't work out, then yep it will be window's. The 67's have the small front window that twists so i figured at worst i'd need to krack them open a bit.

If you put vents down near the kick panels, be careful they don't let water in -from any direction. The stock cowl is a pretty good design.
I'd try to get ventilation in the car without having to crack open windows.
Fitting an A/C system?

Thanks, I think the dash realy suits the look of the car. you can get them in americe LHD in fibreglass i found out after i did it. Wouldn't have helped me as i'm doing it RHD . I have a 69 camaro i'm building and that also has a 59 dash in it but it's about to get cut out. I'm building it as a show car so once i saw that those dash conversions had been done in USA i decided to do a different one in the 69. I just want to do something orrigional for that car. There's nothing worse than looking at a custom car that has been done before .

Yeh, fitting a A/C under dash Vintage air. Will def try and get a vent system to work. Just havn't sat down to nut it out yet.

I have a Vintage Air in mine.. Yet to run it yet as the resto is still on-going, but very compact and very good cooling from what I hear.
Some of their vents are a lacking some thought and detail, causing me to modify to fit the OE onces, but otherwise, I'm quite happy with it.

They are a good size for tight spot's. Lets hope they work well in Australian conditions.

The last 2 were when we had the subframe in and 4 link welded. Can't remember if the tubs were finnished or not but we took it out side to get a better look.

Thanks Mitch, I'll get some pic's up on the 69 soon . Might even start another build up thread. I will say this it's going to be radical. It's called DUMPED the 69 project. Full art morrison max G 3 link chassis, Air ride, twin procharged and intercooled 540 Donovan BBC. Fuel injected with a hogans sheetmetal intake, The plan is for atleast 1500 rwhp on pump gas. The exhaust's will exit just before the rear wheels, Custom dash with full centre console up to the rear parcel shelf. Hidden roll cage,I have 24''x14'' wheels with pirelli 405/25/24'' tires and 22''x8.5'' with 245/30/22. Too much to list. I'll get some pic's up soon and start another build thread. The car is about half done but i put it on hold to get in to PLAN B. That's where the name PLAN B came from. We were trying to get the 69 to summernats 2010 but it was at a piont where if i spent a little more time on it , it would go from realy nice to show car. Well it will go to one show then drive the doors off it. No point building something to just sit there. So here i am with 2 cars on the go at similar stages and none to drive. I keep telling myself it will be worth the wait.

This is the mod's to get the wheels to fit. and a shot of the underneath of the car once we scraped the tar off. The floor was immaculate for both rust and dents.

These are of the detroit speed mini tubs that were too small and we needed to add about 40mm to them to give the tires room. The pic of the wheel doesn't do it justice. It's a 20x12 with a 4'' backspace. I love wheels with deep dish.

These are the up to date ones. I got the car around the middle of october 2009 . 4 weeks later it had the subframe, tubs, 4 link, dash, firewall, brakes put in. That's when i found the bit of rust. It ended up being about the size of a 5 cent piece in the lower quarter. There had been a rear end hit at some stage in it's life and there was a few dents that were not done properly in america. I'm not a bog fan so i sent it off to my metal finisher and got it sorted. It's now ready for paint body wise. That was about three weeks before christmas. We havn't done anything on it since then. I picked it up from the engineer today after he had it for the twist test and bump steer test. It passed the twist test easily as it needed to be 6000 but we went just over 8000. I'm just happy it passed. We are going to start back on it in a few weeks. We are building the engine at the moment ready to do final test fit with extractors and exhaust. It's off to the trim shop monday to get the boot boards and new door boards made up. Then back to fit engine and check there will be no clearance issues . Then off to paint. Can't wait.

The 69 will be silver blue 2 tone and the 67 will be similar to the ford focus xr5 orrange. Both will probably have white leather interior.

The rear wheels for the 69 are massive but i'm hoping they look good . They are on the way now so i should get them in 2 weeks. I have a picture in my head of how i want it to look so i'll see how it goes. I'm sure it won't be to every ones taste but time will tell. It will either look S--t or it will look s--t hot. I have a JADA toy car that i'm basing my build on . It has massive wheels and roughly working them out on the scale they are 26'' rims. The JADA looks tough so that's where it came from. A lot of sheetmetal work to come i think.
