What I find absolutely amazing on this is that Jim has finally seen the light and bought himself a 1st gen Camaro.
Jim welcome to the club.
BTW I have a plain jane 68, if I cut the front half off my car and attach it to the rear of yours you would have a whole plain jane, and half a real Z

Great colour combo, original combo that is.

It's all good Chris :) and thank you for the welcome to Camaro ownership :) As I tried to point out to the the yanks, my disappointment lies in the appraisal of the car but not the overall condition of the car :) ...........I find myself in a very enviable position, I might have a 5hitter but it is still a Z/28 and as long as it's arse point s to the ground that is what it will be.
As I have told another member of the forum, I will see the car through and at the end it will be envied(after I spend 100k on it:( )

What's the issue?
What's wrong with buying a Z/28 even if it is rooted?
If you want to buy a project, surely that your choice
Was it misrepresented by the seller or something?

Its been back halved Nev and Jim wasnt told and the seller is playing dumb and it was also appraised as a Z and when inspected it wasnt noted it had been butchered.

Oh, OK.
An unscrupulous seller:mad:
But all things considered, isn't it still a Z/28? (obviously price will differ even on a Z/28 when considering vehicle condition)

From the firewall back, the car is not a Z28. There are some subtle differences that Z28s had over other models. I'm still learning but, differences that an expert should have looked for and found or saw missing.

The car is still a Z/28, even thou its been backhalved. So what is Bob Janes camaro classified as then. The car has only its original turrent as does this Z/28 and hasnt its original ZL1 engine. Bobs car was a wreck when a mate of mine wanted to buy it prior to Bob buying it.
I think the responsibility is mainly on the seller. He would of known about the problems, so he should disclose all. But it also is a risk to buy sight unseen. I have been caught out also a few years ago buying sight unseen. Seller was very dishonest, learnt my lesson.
I feel for Jim as this experience ruins the fun out of having classic cars.

I agree, an expert has looked at this car, so it is up to him to do his job.
Sorry to hear about this mate, there are so many dodgey dudes out there today, it is scary.. At least value wise in the end it will be a Z28 even if its chopped. You really got them going over on firstgen thou  :D

True, i think it doesnt worry him to much, well i think it doesnt as he really doesnt bring it up. He has the next best thing, a genuine ZL1 engine in a Genuine SS 69.
IMO as long as you are happy with your ride does it all really matter. Its all US muscle in the end, and thats what we love, as long as we are not ripped off.
And to follow up.. I sort of regret having such and original 69 ( apart from the drive line ) as I would like to mod the hell out of it!! But there is no way I am cutting anything up, except rolling the guards! Cant wait to see the tuuurd on the road Jim :)

Yep, why I got a plain jane roller.
If Steve is Mr Original, I am yet to have a car that hasn't had major surgery - albeit none as much as the camaro and all the others by my own hand, so ummm, I would say butchery over surgery (the things we do as 18-24 year olds)

I agree, there isn't many things that p!ss me off more than someone who rips people off.
I just can't understand how they can live with themselves.
There really should be some severe penalties for these low lifes (apart from a vigilante cricket bat to the knee caps)
We shouldn't care too much about what other people think about our cars (although it is great to get some peer recognition of a job well done), all that really counts is that you are happy with the car.
can you not take the Australian seller to court as he clearly mis-represented the car? or if you don't want to take it that far, get a solicitor to send him a nasty letter?
at the end of the day what resolution do you want? money back, apology?? or are you happy to keep the car?

Just read the whole post here and 1st gen, feel for you bud, I`m afraid I got dusted the same way, but probably with a lot less money involved. The bright side(I`m looking hard for you:) ) is that replacement panels etc are bloody cheap now, hope you know a beater/painter and it will be a great car at the end anyway.

Thanks for the upbeat vibe guys guys :) I will be keeping the car. It is in storage at the moment around 200 kays away so I am not tempted to start pulling it down , in the meantime I will start to accumulate bits and pieces.
About the car, don't feel sorry for me :) I bought the car sight unseen and the car seems to be in better condition than I thought it would be :D
As for the seller, I believe he knew what the car consisted of but just never disclosed it.Am I going to pursue it legally, probably not.............but if I meet the guy in the flesh I will probably just punch him in the phuckin mouth.
For the benefit of others out there, this same guy has 2 other Camaros apparently. A '67 and a '69, he lives in Brighton-le-Sands and his name is Martin..........caveat emptor. If by chance you bump into this phuckstick, could you please ask him for the spoiler off the car(no it wasn't in the ad but I know he bought the car with it and rally wheel caps)
All is good here :D

Like others have said its not the end of the world, Metal is just metal wheras id tags cannot be replaced. 20 yrs ago when i was in the trade we did quite a few cut and shuts as directed by insurance companies. Final test at TAFE used to be cut and shut a car in a week. To be honest as long as its done properly id have no problem with it. We used to unpick factory seams and re weld as per origional. car would be on a bench jig. not much different to replacing front chassis rails on commodores etc. We used to send cars to wheel aligners after replacing firewall 2 x front chassis rails skirts etc and theyd sometimes come back with out any or minimal adjustment required. Having said that if i didnt do it myself id want to see photos of job in progress. Have seen some shocking jobs with butt weld through the pillars and overlap weld under seats not even tidied up.
Having dribbled all that , if you payed top dollar for a presumably origional but in bad condition z28 then id be pissed!
