New venue on the Goldy, every Fri nite from 7pm to 9pm+
The Ferry Rd Diner in the Supercheap auto complex on Ferry Rd Southport. Just south of Queen St on Ferry Rd.
Good foor with meal deals or takeaway menu. & 50s style booths inside, plus seating for 40 or so undercover. 24hr BP servo across the road. 188 carparks.
1st Fri nite we had a 25 car trial for the owner. Last Fri we had easily 40+ cars. Words filtering out through the clubs,WWW etc.
Good low key atmosphere. Very much like Munchies, something that the Gold Coast has lacked for years, a Musclecar cruise joint.
No skids. No alchohol. No tossers, we want this to work.
cheers Dave

Looks like it should be a good venue, shame it's a bit far to come down to!

Someone needs to organise something like this in WA.
Do you get any problems with the local constabulary?

Good luck with this it sounds/looks great.
I just hope you can keep the peanut minority at bay so the majority can enjoy it.

Dunno about down at the coast but cops in QLD in general seem to leave enthusiasts alone I find, far more likely to pull up the ricer in front of you, but, transport dept. on the other hand(at least locally here) are the ones to pull you up for no reason and go right through you when they have a blitz. Only time I have been pulled up in one of my cars for no reason here, is when the cop said do you mind if I have a look, so pretty lucky really.
Sounds great Dave, I am aiming to be at the powercruise this year in Bris so might try to come for a look.

Nitro Magazine owner John came up for a look so may get some coverage sometime in his mag and he's sniffin around for feature cars.He lives on the Goldy so will no doubt be a regular on site. All positive so far.

ASRF are sanctioning the event soon so the hotrod guys will be out n about soon also.
Randa67, this has been a mostly word of mouth deal and 4 websites. We appproched the owner and got lucky, he was a streetmachiner in the 80s n 90s so was all for it. We had a trial run for his benefit and the rest is history! So, find a venue with good food, plenty of parking and where the owner will support it and the rest will fall into place. We are a few kms from Surfers so most of the main traffic stays away from the diner, but it dont matter much , car guys will travel for the right place. Do it!

Great nights so far, all that has to be done is to insure that the people that do go there dont take off from the site showing off what their car's can do and attract the attention of the Dept of Transport and Queensland Police. They are just doing their job so if all of the geniune persons with their hot cars do the same their will not be an issue. Maybe a letter handed out to all those people as they arrive with some details on it would be enough to make sure that it does not happen.

Just an update, The owner is now opening the diner on Sat nites as well as Sunday.Has a good main meal menu avail also.
Seems to be enough support for the 2 nites. After 5 weeks we are averaging 80-100 cars.Cops have been cool with it so far, so good.
The Gold Coast Musclecar Assoc Inc and the owner have gone to great lengths to make the venue happen. We dont want it to suffer the same fate as past Gold Coast venues. Gerry is a 80's car tragic as is stoked with the support so far to say the least.
Please, no skids,no alchohol, no tossers. 24hr security cameras moniter entry/exit/carpark points,eg; no-one needs to be on the diners 'shame file'

First time I have seen the White VK Commodore there on Friday night and I guess this tosser is in your category. Had to take off like a maniac and then go back north up Ferry Road like a maniac. Buddy not welcome. Went there Saturday night at 5-30 to 6-30 nobody had turned up, felt sorry for owner of Diner but never mind always next week

Ya, Fri nites the go.
The owner wanted to try Sat nites but I reckon he'll over-cook it. Not too many are interested in Sat nites it would seem, although it was his first Sat and he's open until 8pm anyways. See how it goes, but to be safe, head down in Fri nite.Averaging 70-80 cars as long asthe weather looks OK, the cars will come.
Diddnt see the commy but if I see it again, I'll have a little 'chat' to the owner
cheers Dave

Went down on Fri night, there was some bloody nice gear there even in spite of the weather. I think it was a black 67 stang fastback that I was drooling over and I`m not a mustang fan.... and no I didn`t take a camera;)

Thats a cool diner. Wish we had a venue like that in Perth at the moment. There would definatly be the market for it. But it would no doubt get abused by ricers and commodore (probably chev badged ones) driving clowns.
I remember we had a place like this on riverside drive in the 80's when i was a kid. My dad in his muzzy convertible and his mate in his 69 GT500 would do bog laps around Perth and end up there for big yank style burgers and fries.
It was called Bernies and was all decked out 50's style and popular with hotrod clubs . Had a great atmosphere and character about it. Lots of highrise development there now. Its a shame as i think that style of place would be a goldmine now.
