View Full Version : Can we do a Recommended Suppliers thread?

I was thinking the other day (lol) about how good it is when you find a supplier that REALLY stands out from the crowd, and is worthy of our hard-earned.

It could be quality, price, knowledge, location, reputation or whatever. But word of mouth usually delivers us to these people more than advertising (as the good guys have enough clientele already).

So why not speed this process along by starting a list for USM'ers to try? some thoughts include;

- A different thread for each state (or at least coast), then interstaters can decide whether to search them, rather than being forced to.

- Rules applied, like no negative listings (supposed to be a positive list, not a black-ban one - It would be too long :rolleyes:), no spruiking your own business, no waffling like a chat room etc. Just a simple list of who's worthy.

- Based on a brief summary rather than a long-winded discussion thread. PErhaps with a format kinda like this;

STATE: Vic
SERVICE: Suspension
NAME: Bouncy Bits
CONTACT: 555-3612, deanorocks@myworld.org.au
ADVANTAGE: Knowledge, friendly, discount for any car with a vent window
OPTIONAL COMMENT: Importer for Acme Corporation. Ordered a rocket sled and several crates of TNT within a day. Speak to Fred or Sam.

So Admin-types, is this OK? Breaking any forum guidelines or whatever?

NOTE: I'm not suggesting this be the start of the listings, so don't start chucking them up, was just a feeler for now ;)

Over to y'all!

I think it's a great idea.

i will add just one comment, lets just keep it to recommended and why. Key point here is the Internet is like any other form of media, if you slander someone and they get pi$$ed they have every right to come after you. now I think we all do a pretty good job on here of keeping it mature and factual, so as long as it were to stay that way then I think this would be really valuable

Sounds like a good idea as long as it is kept positive and short and sweet! Is it possible to set it up that only the info Deano suggested can be posted to prevent it being hijacked into a debate over who offers the best deals! also a spot suppliers can put up specials for fourm members.

Good idea Deano, even to the fact that you cant remember a business name or whos who in the given area.

- A different thread for each state (or at least coast), then interstaters can decide whether to search them, rather than being forced to. Oh, and one for overseas suppliers of course!! (Almost forgot the first two letters' meaning in the spelling of "USM"...:p )

Great Idea.. Lets get after it.. I guess we need one of the mods to start it off and make it a sticky when we get enough, Chris are you volunteering ? :p ;)

I'll take it on.

Let me just square it away with the other mods, but proposal will be:

New category under buy/sell/trade section, suggest category be called:
Recommended Suppliers

We'll have a sticky in there with the rules for posting into that category, things like no slamming of anyone for whatever reason etc etc

We'll also use Deano's suggested basic info list

Watch out for it, will keep you posted

We'll also use Deano's suggested basic info list Sweet. Can I please make a refinement suggestion before going too much further? Rather than one massive sticky/thread, or one per state, I believe these four categories would do the trick (one sticky/thread each)

1) North East (NSW / QLD)
2) South Central (VIC / SA)
3) West Coast (WA) :rolleyes:
4) International (USA & beyond)

Then within each could change my suggested "State" field to "Location". (Thus an eg entry would read "Townsville" instead of just "QLD")

Rock & roll!! :cool:

* * RE-POSTED COZ GUIDELINES DON'T COME UP IN "NEW POSTS".. I think :D * *

Waddaya say guys, if we each just added two or even three suppliers this will be a brilliant reference section... Only takes a minute & we can all benefit big time ;)

Surely we can all think of a couple of half-decent places we've used for parts, services or info? (inc U.S.)

I know is early days, but lets get 'er rolling :)

Just digging this up again...

Now I know that a heap of you guys bring stuff in from the states all the time.

No recommended suppliers?

Unfortunately I am still somewhat of a noob, and need all the help I can get.

Like Deano said... It will only take a few minutes for everyone to update the thread with recommendations!
