Whenever I pick up my Street Machine magazine, I always scan the Spit and Polish section which shows a calendar of upcoming car shows, cruises, swap meets, etc. and I am always left envious of the number of events that go on in the Eastern States. Whilst a few new ones have started to pop up over the last couple of years, I still don't believe there is enough events in WA and I would love to see more.
I have often thought about organising a simple event, which I would love to make annual. Something that combines a cruise and show 'n' shine, maybe raises a few bucks for charity and is family friendly. Has anyone out there been invloved in organising something like this? Would anyone be interested? Am I kidding myself? Lets hear your thoughts.....

Are you in a club?
Perhaps join a club if you're not and get all the members to host a show with their cars while inviting surrounding clubs to come along too.
Keep it simple and entry cheap. Keep the same weekend every year and hopefully the same location too.
The American Breed show that the 60sAMCC host is exactly that and it's very popular now.

Talk to Jordan, Clayton's bro as he did all the leg work and invested into a new car show enterprise which didn't end up becoming a reality. I'm sure he will be able to inform you of all the pit falls as I hear they are plentiful and expensive.
OLSKOOL1800 is his username is on here.

Albert, Don't you have a Perth based car mag that shows events in it?
I am over Street Machine mag, they seem to cater for a minority and a bunch of mates these days.

there are events on most weekends in Perth but a lot of clubs dont advertise them.
Organising a show with a cruise would be a hell of a lot of work, it takes me a good 6-8 months of planning to get my show done and its a static show.
I also help on the WA Hot Rod and Street Machine Spectacular committee, the cost of this show would blow most peoples minds.
To give you an idea, for me to get the road closure for my show involves hiring a traffic management company to do the plan, 40 page council approval form, organise the signage and supply 2 traffic management guys for the day (cost of $1000).
Once we have council approval, we have to go to the local Police , then once they sign off then we go to Police Traffic HQ so they can sign off.
I have to cover Public Liability for the closed off area too, as well as toilets (1 per 500 people).
On top of this we still need to advertise, organise entertainment, shade, volunteers etc etc .
Not tying to put you off, but be aware this is time consuming and will cost you a few grand to stage.
Find a local park that will let you hire it, maybe a sports oval as they usually have toilets etc.
get a couple of sponsers and run ads in the Sunday Times and maybe quokka and make sure every car club you can think of gets an invite.
We had 40 cars at out first open day, then 100, then 200, then 280 and this year 370+.

Fair call guys. I didn't have any illusions that it would be easy (or cheap). Like Plodge says above, this is more the type of low key affair I was thinking of.

I think SA is similar, but talking to some people recently and they preferred to keep the show small and use a "word of mouth" so only the enthusiast knows about the show.
I know that recently there have been issues with people running around and taking photos of number plates and the relevant car and sending the photos to Regency to ask if it is legal (what is wrong with these people?), and a few people have had an invitaiton from Regency Park to front up for an inspection.

We have some radical anti car (anti modified car?) knuckle heads here, but we do have a pretty strong car culture.
If you go to one of the Zipple cruises you actually see that our types of cars are very popular (Camaro's, Corvettes, Mustangs, Hot Rods etc) and most are pretty well behaved.
We have some peanuts over here that have been brainwashed by the local media and have a dull and lonely life, hence their silly activities.
