I have my new Newport wiper motor but now I have to get the arms to park on the opposite side (my wipers have been converted). I dont know what this involves at all. Is it something I can do myself or best left to a professional. My original motor was converted by the electrician who rewired the car.

When the motor is installed and the motor is in the parked position (Give it power and let it park -not just it's position out of the box) where is the drive arm parked?

3 o'clock when facing the car for example..

I'm assuming the drive arm can be removed and refitted 180° from factory. Will that work I wonder, if the parked position is either 3 or 9 o'clock.

Ah OK, so it could be something that was done mechanically and not electrically. I just assumed the electrician did something. I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks Steve. While your there, I have a set of ported 781 heads cut for 2.19 1.88 valves. Is there a way to check if they have hardened seats fitted. I bought them as they are now. Cheers

You may have to pull a valve to check to see if your heads have had h/seats installed. I'd doubt it though(but I may be wrong :o ), there is a lot of water behind the cast iron and some blokes won't have a go at it unless you're prepared to suck up the cut through to H2o :D

I don't know how to check but I would assume that if someone has gone to the effort to install larger valves, the seats would have been changed too..
But that's purely an assumption and assumptions have killed many people in the past! :p

Take them to the machine shop. They'll probably give the seats a light tap with a tungsten tip or some other trick and tell you straight away.

Yep, I found that one out after my wipers tried to clean the bonnet:o

OK thanks Jim, thanks Steve. I bought the heads bare. When I get the block machined (a long way off) I'll take in the heads and see what they reckon. :)

Nev, I think I'll triple and quadruple check before I put the arms back on. That must have been scary!

You'd better Dave.
I hope my mistake will at least be of help to others.
All it did for me was p!ss me off. (All better now though)
