As Mitch suggested - here is a seperate post of our ponti.
We bought her in from the US in Aug 08.
For the people who dont know, we will give you a run down on the S.Es
She is a Special Edition - which means black with the whole gold deal. the gold snowflakes, the gold decal kit, the gold dash bezel and a few other fancy gold bits and pieces.. all bits that anyone can now get to make a clone. Only PHS ( pontiac History Services) doc will tell you if you own a Special Edition or not.
The thing about her is she is all stock - we even found a original 8 track radio- and installed that a few weeks ago. Everything on her is pretty much as it was when it came off the dealership floor - albeit re freshened.
She is a Californian car built at Van Nuys plant - which means the emission controls were pretty tight. So she has a Oldsmobile 403 engine in her, not the 400 pontiac engine which were put in the TAs in Norwood Plant at the same time. (Plus many of the 400 pontiac engines were saved to put into the silver 10th anniversary (1979) Trans Ams.)
Break down of T/A for 1978 (403 Oldsmobile or 400 Pontiac engine) = 93,341
of Black T/A Y82 (400) & Y84 (403) – Special Editions = 3,643 of Y84 L80’s (403 engine & auto trans) = 210. So she is 1 of 210 SE TAs built in 78. And who knows how many real SE's are still around - as everyone who owned one - I bet drove it like Burt Reynolds. :)
Out of her 6.6 litre engine she has 185 HP, and torque (Lb/Ft) @ rpm 320 @ 2200.
