As Mitch suggested - here is a seperate post of our ponti.
We bought her in from the US in Aug 08.

For the people who dont know, we will give you a run down on the S.Es

She is a Special Edition - which means black with the whole gold deal. the gold snowflakes, the gold decal kit, the gold dash bezel and a few other fancy gold bits and pieces.. all bits that anyone can now get to make a clone. Only PHS ( pontiac History Services) doc will tell you if you own a Special Edition or not.

The thing about her is she is all stock - we even found a original 8 track radio- and installed that a few weeks ago. Everything on her is pretty much as it was when it came off the dealership floor - albeit re freshened.

She is a Californian car built at Van Nuys plant - which means the emission controls were pretty tight. So she has a Oldsmobile 403 engine in her, not the 400 pontiac engine which were put in the TAs in Norwood Plant at the same time. (Plus many of the 400 pontiac engines were saved to put into the silver 10th anniversary (1979) Trans Ams.)

Break down of T/A for 1978 (403 Oldsmobile or 400 Pontiac engine) = 93,341
of Black T/A Y82 (400) & Y84 (403) – Special Editions = 3,643 of Y84 L80’s (403 engine & auto trans) = 210 . So she is 1 of 210 SE TAs built in 78. And who knows how many real SE's are still around - as everyone who owned one - I bet drove it like Burt Reynolds. :)

Out of her 6.6 litre engine she has 185 HP, and torque (Lb/Ft) @ rpm 320 @ 2200.

LOL sorry Deano, Mitch - the post was meant for both of you. :). Yeah we got her on club rego initially - just so we could drive a bit before we had to do any work for the engineer. We always wanted to go full rego - and we did that in April this year - now we can drive her anytime we want.

Trans Am Oz that is like really nice and you have the correct transfer kit on it too unlike many SE's we see. Got to be proud driving her.

Daang Kaz. Thats a VERY nice looking TA.. Looks like it just came off the showroom floor and the fact that it is the REAL DEAL makes it just that bit better!!

Hey Kaz nice car. That looks immaculate. Definitely brings back memories of Smokey and the Bandit! They were really strangled with emissions with 185HP out of 400ci! Excellent cruizer

here here BB is in top condition, Mal and Kaz certainly look after their cars well, that's why I chose them to mind "my" Y84 for me. :p

BB and Winnie make a fine sight if you ask me! And turn a few heads!

LOL RAW454

BB is what Mal and Kaz call their Y84.... now what BB stands for is up for debate as I have asked the question with no answer given by both. Perhaps Black Beauty!

In my case Winnie, this is what my Y88 is affectionately called because of the rubber she has, as she is a lady Winnie was picked!
