Gday guys
have been bit of a lurker here for a while. We already own a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition  . And now just over the weekend I bought a Chevy Impala 1967 4 door pillarless. Here are a few pics of her. She was apparently originally from Tassie - and we are now the fourth owner. She appears to be pretty original - except for a respray 10 years ago (she was apparently originally black), and new carpet. She needs some attention, which hopefully we can work on over the next few weeks. My parents used to own a 67 when I was young - so it's a great feeling to have one back in the family.

wild 68- jamie - I am a bit old fashioned - want to keep her stock. She is just going to be a nice cruisier.
454 nuttr- scott - bright red!! originally I thought yuk.. but it grew on me -and now I love it.. a shame I dont barrack for essendon. lol.
Smote - yeah she is aus delivered - I think the front lights have been changed, and the previous owner changed the back indicators to white (with orange bulb) so it looks a bit more american.. In regards to parts - I guess we are in the same boat - I am interested to find the best place for parts as well. I sometimes use https://pontiworld.com.au/usgmsp/ nsw, Dave Clee for my ponti, and I have heard of www.chevparts.com.au run by Ian Maris in nsw. But I guess I have to do my homework and see what I can find.

Chev parts in yenoora
Frank tonito some where near warragamba dam and im pretty sure ponti world down in the gong do some chev stuff as well, as for the 67-68 impalas im pretty sure you cant get full rear qauters but you can get the lower halves
As for the 67, I love it, looks really tidy, loving the red interior too!

Super sweet cruiser there Kaz! And with a stunningly mint ride like the bandit TransAm (Lilydale trophy-winner, ya?) wouldn't expect anything less!
As for the parts, the park brake lever is the same as a Gen1 Camaro if that helps :D :D Will keep an eye out for the big unit on the road.
PS - Reckon the Transam is worth posting too. Nobody here didn't want one of them when BAN-ONE rolled out the back of the Bandit's truck... Don't care who you are. "Well gosh almighty would you look at that. Honey huuush..";)

Thanks Mike, yeah just had the radiator re-cored, and plan to put the original springs back in her soon and replace a few bits and pieces. And she needs a damn good cut and polish - but that is not so urgent. The only problem is the seat trim, I want to try and find a close match to what it was - which is not the same as the US seat trim. We have a few contacts but they have to see the car and hopefully they can suggest a matching material.
ps - we are trying to get the nudge bars for back and front too. ( I know your impala from CF forum)- she looks good.

What's the difference in seat trim?
Did the Aussie built units have same vinyl as used in Holden's for that era?

Hi Nev - apparently they used local seat trim, not what the US used.. So you are probably right about the Holden seat trim being the same. The vinyl is in great condition, it is the material inbetween that is ripped and worn.

So if they used the material of the holden for that year would that be "HR" or "HK"?
Maybe the Premiers and Broughams had something close.
Have you talked to any motor trimmers?

thanks. There are a few on ebay, and carpoint lately - but the prices seem to be going up.. maybe because of the Supernatural TV show.. just keep your ear to the ground. Maybe worth a call to the local chevy club group, they might be able to help out. Good luck.

I had a 67 Impala back about 1978.
It was 327 with 2sp glide but had no top gear.
Would do 65mph in 1st so that's just how I used it!!!!
It was white with a sort of goldy coloured interior same material as yours but real tatty (read shredded)

Yeah, you're right, which ones would go best on my standard rims out of these do you reckon? - http://antiquetyres.com.au/tyre-brands/bf-goodrich-redline-radials

I'd go for these http://antiquetyres.com.au/node/73 on a 6 or 7" rim
As far as I know, no one will recalibrate the speedo.
If you drastically change tyre height or rear end gears, you need to change the drive gear in the box and the driven gear on the speedo cable.

Or get one of these

What tyres are on there now ?
Not sure what size, they have old poly's on there, and use different numbers for sizing (I think) I'll look on the weekend (I'm keeping it at my father in law's while I build my garage.)

I think 215 or 225 x 70 x 15 would be about right for an impala with 6" or 7" rallies, I wouldn't go any bigger.

Why not keep them all the same ? Then you can rotate them and get better wear.
The 235s are almost 28" tall and the 215s are 26" tall, it might look a little strange

Yep, get the original rebuilt, it'll last another 40 years, could cost $200 + depending on what's wrong with it ?
Factory BB square bore intakes where usually rectangle port (post 65) and only used on solid lifter engines, pretty rare and desireable to corvette guys.

Hi Jaso
I have the 1967 Caprice front corner lights with wiring if you're interested? :) Had 'em for years, never put them on the car in the end.
Also...I had a random query about bumper guards (since we have the same make/model car :D), I was looking at putting my set of bumper guards (over-riders) on the front and back of my car...but I need a recommendation on who to go to in Melbourne...
...Will a rechromer repair or "manufacture" a black rubber bit also ?! (that's my main problem as one is stuffed & the others worn badly)...does anyone know, or have any experiences with this or a similar problem and any recommendations? thanks

they are in pretty good condition. let me find the box they are in and post you some pictures.
Not sure about price. Say $150-ish for the cornering light bezels, lens & wiring (pair).
send me a private message through the website if you like for my mobile number. Are there any other bits and pieces you may need?, so I can take photos of everything as all in boxes in the shed.
Kaz, or maybe even Mal :) I need to ask a favour.
Any chance of being able to get some nice clear, high-res shots of the Impala's engine bay?
Specifically the firewall, and everything that connects to / runs through it.
My engine bay is missing bibs & bobs and there's a couple bit's I can't quite make out.
Would truly appreciate it. If you can help out, drop me a PM and I'll give you an email address to forward them to.

Russ,
if you want, you're welcome to call in to my place and take a look under the hood of my rusty 67 impala.
its all factory.... i think.
i can also take some photos. though getting them from a clean source might help in identifying parts haha :D
Crap. I will apologies mate. Completely forgot about you. :D
Pics would be great if you could help out mate.
What I'm specifically after is on the drivers side firewall. There's 2 grommeted holes next to the brake booster. I'm fairly certain they're for wiring up dash-related switches (wipers, headlights etc). Just not sure if they're for general routing, or I'm actually missing something specific. You can see them in this pic:
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d99/rookskickz/Auto/My%20Impala/67Impala5.jpg
Might take you up on that offer of a drive-by soon though. Wouldn't mind seeing the engine bay in the flesh to give me an idea on what exactly I'm missing - and then steal them when you're not looking :D
Is yours still intact or have you yanked the engine?

well, i just had a quick look and.... god almighty...mine is mad arse dodgy.
the guy i got if off must of been on crack. :D
the top hole has lost its gromet (silicon gun substitute) and the accelerator cable comes from there, plus two other wires which are for electrics somewhere. bit dark at the moment to see
and the bottom gromet contains two cables. one which looks like another accelerator cable and another one which is really long (its coiled into a ring and tied, and then bolted to the main pulley....
err... i'm thinking its grounded or something.
i also noticed another hole with a gromet down and to the left of the bottom hole you mentioned.. very close to the booster. do you have this?
jeeeesus this bloke had some fun with this car.
another thing totally unrelated is if i want to use the demister i need to pull over, pop the bonnet and flick a valve to allow the heat through a hose :p hahahah
god this car is going to take a lot to get going :(
your still welcome to pop around and take a look if you want.
i also can take some photos during the day and post the mess that i just witnessed

Sorry Russ. I go into hibernation this time of the year, as many of us do down south. Here are two pics taken awhile ago.. where we were doing some cleaning up .. and no one is allowed to mention the plumbers tap.. lol..(well except for Smote.. because we have to stop and do the same thing).
ours doesnt have those 2 grommet holes likes yours.. but there is a siliconed hole further down and everything seems to go through there...
http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww40/kazmal/IMG_4026.jpg
http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww40/kazmal/IMG_4027.jpg
Smote - that sounds weird. Now I have to see pics of it :D
Only other hole in that area on mine (I think) is to the lower left of the booster, which I believe is the acc. cable. It's had the half grommet half silicone treatment. Plus it's held in place with a bracket.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d99/rookskickz/Auto/My%20Impala/Enginebay-acccable1.jpg
Both yours & Kaz's seem to have a "Heater switch" attached to the hoses hahahaha - that's awesomely inconvenient. :D
Wonder why that is though?
Mine has been blocked off with a couple bolts. No heater hoses attached. Going to leave it that way for now.
I'm sure my first cruise in it on a wintery night will snap me out of that train of thought though.
Kaz - thanks for the pics. Everything seems to match up with mine in a round-a-bout way, so all is good. Thank you.

I wanted to do a 67 Imp pillarless like yours but fell in love with the 68 when i saw it and just had to have it, especially with all the windows down she looks so smooth. Your a Supernatural fan aren't you?, you should get her number plate to be KAZ-2Y5 same as the show. Also having difficulty getting a bench seat for mine if you know of any around. Again what a beauty

Congrats on your 68! have you posted pics anywhere yet? There are a few fourth gen impala owners on this site - so you should be able to get some help.As for the bench seat, I havent seen any around. But you have asked in the wanted section so its a good start.
To answer your question on Supernatural.
I am first and foremost a 67 Impala fan..I grew up with one. When I had the money to look for one of my own.. I didnt really care about the colour, it was more about the ride- it was just by pure luck that this one came up for private sale and it was an original black car. 2ndly I am a fan of the Supernatural TV show, so I admit that I do play on that a bit to get attention on a four door. As for the plate it actually has another meaning for me.. My name is KAZ and I got the car in 2009 (2Y9).
Good Luck with your restoration!

your impala is perfect :) hopefully I will be so lucky too in the very near future! Like you I was a fan before Supernatural, and also a fan of the show. Though the show has been bad for my willpower so now I am on the hunt for one to join the car family!

Thanks. They seem to becoming popular - and are harder to find. But they do come up for sale, and you just missed out on one that was for sale on this forum and ebay. As for supernatural clones there are another 2 black four door impalas that I have seen in Victoria, and I know of another in WA that came from NT - so they are certainly being restored and getting out on the road - which is good to see. Good Luck with your search in finding one.
Kaz (or sometimes Mal) ...
When you put in the corner driving lights, how did they sit, and what did you do with the tabs on the fender?

Did you simply bend them back in to fit? The other side fits alright.
And how much clearance between the top of the light and the lip of the fender? Anything like this?
