I JUST SPOKE TO CUSTOMS TODAY AND MENTIONED IF I WAS TO GO TO THE STATES AND PURCHASE "GOODIES" FOR MY CAR AND BRING THEM BACK WITH ME I WOULD BE CHARGED IMPORT DUTY OVER THE $900 ALLOWANCE PER PERSON AND GST.
BUT IF I SENT THEM BACK VIA POST OVER A 3 WEEK PERIOD MAKING SURE THEY ALL DIDNT ARRIVE BACK INTO THE COUNTRY AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD BE IMPORT AND GST FREE UNDER A $1000 PER PACKAGING INCLUDING POSTAL COSTS.
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS??THEY KNOW THAT THAT I WANT "ALL" THESE "GOODIES" BUT WONT LET ME BRING EM BACK WITH ME AT ALL THE SAME TIME!!!
AND IF THE GOODS WERE ALL MADE IN THE U.S. WONT THEY ALL COME UNDER THE F.T.A. ANYWAY OR IS THAT TOTALLY SEPARATE ISSUE??
IVE HAD A QUICK LOOK ON THE CUSTOMS SITE AND WASNT ABLE TO DECEIFER ANYTHIN THAT I WAS AFTER.
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4226
CAN ANYONE SHED ANY LIGHT ON THIS ISSUE OR HAVE ANY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WOULD BE GREAT???

Paul , im thinkin' this would be your rims? I brought well over $5000US worth of stuff in 3 suitcases recently , All that happened is they weighed them at the airport ,of couse i knew they were over..and they slugged me for $100 US for excess baggage weight. Going by the limits with virgin atlantic i worked out i was getting slugged a lot more. Im not sure how they settled on only $100 bux???
And when we arrived home in OZ they sent us thru the express by-pass exit with no checks at all of our baggage???
Work that out?
my Advice-spread the weight out between bags even ,do nice packing and go for it:eek:

I bought a heap of stuff through customs a few years ago in suitcases worth around 6-7k US, guy I bought the gear from me gave some realistic yet fudged invoice :D Handed my $1200 worth of invoices over to Customs and they blew me off
Keep in mind, if Customs catch you bull****ting you may just get fined and you'll have a black mark against your name as long as your arse points to the ground :(
