They haven't set the schedule for the weekend yet, but if it is anything like last year the drag racing will be on the Saturday.

Ok, hope it's like last year then. Will pencil that in my calender and you might see me down there on the saturday for the drags. My future sister-in-law is from Collie and her family still live there....

Gday Marty, are ther still going to have the nostalgia drags just after Big als or has the Collie event taken over that spot ?

there are two retro drag meets at the motorplex this year, check the dates on the plex site under calender, but these meets are nothing to do with shannans nostalgia series, there is a bit of a -hit fight going on at the moment that i will steer well away from..

Hey Barry, as Graham said there is now 2 new Retro Fest events on at the Motorplex, 21st Nov and 14th Mar, but they have nothing to do with the Shannons Nostalgia series which have moved their event to Collie. The sh!t fight is'nt really good for the sport IMO but a bonus for us out of it is that we get 3 nostalgia type events to race at this season instead of 1. I think there is also a planned 1/8th mile event for Wongan Hills as well. Theres some interesting reading about it over at the wadracing forum, which Luke had to eventually lock the thread

I'm sure it's 1/8 mile. There's no mention on the entry form about it though and the class regulations (ANDRA rules) all refer to 1/4 mile times but i think they have just used there standard entry form

I too will be at Bright Rod Run so will miss this.
The 'Retro Festival' events are on 21st nov (same weekend as Revheads and V8's at Barbagello) and the 14th march 2010 which is the same weekend as my clubs annual pipeline picnic in Mundaring (with the best goody bag in the west!)

Hi Guys,
My brother Jordan (aka OLSKOOL1800 on the forum) is the Features Editor of Perth Street Car Magazine.
He is planning on heading down to the event on Sunday morning to cover it for the magazine and is looking to see if he can get a lift with somebody there and back.
He literally works the whole day and night Saturday (finishing at 5.00am Sunday morning) and he is worried that it will be unsafe to drive all the way without sleep.
Can anybody help him out?
He doesn’t mind driving to your place or alternatively you can pick him up. (5 mins out of the city)
He will pay for some of the fuel costs and will do his best to scam you free entry with him :)
Please pm him if you can or email him on:
mrrx3_jl@net.net.au
Cheers,
Clayton.

bummer, would love to help out Clayton, but unfortunately i'm only heading down for the drags on saturday and won't be there for Sunday's events. Will be leaving around 5am on saturday morning and coming home after the drags are finished on saturday arvo as i have a prior engagement to attend on sunday.
If not for the unsafe driving, his ex-Taxi would'nt make it to Collie anyway, struggled to make it down to Kwinana recently.....hahahaha
would love to help out too.. Going to be laid up after the knee op!!! Sure someone will be able to help out thou.

Well that was certainly an experiance, the track had absolutely no traction what so ever. Had slicks on but I reckon i would of have more traction on Stock road with street tyres. A couple of technical problems meant we had no times so it was pretty much heads up racing for the day. Took it easy on the 1st pass and struggled with traction, and then started with a bigger burnout on the 2nd pass and let it rip only to powerskid 3/4's of the track.....hahahaha.....a lot of fun but not good for the slicks which were now beyond the depth indicators so had to take it easy on the burnouts for the rest of the day. Ended up backing the throttle cable off for 3/4 throttle and leaving it in D for Drag off the line to have any chance of traction and eventually lost the final to a very nice looking black Cobra. Need to order a new set of slicks tomorrow in time for the next fast friday in two weeks time. Only 5 cars in US muscle, 2 nice blue Mustangs, 2 Camaro's and a Cobra. George was there with his TUFF as twin turbo '69 Camaro, thankfully he was running in the GAS class....Only managed to take a couple of pics.....

Geez Marty if you couldn't get traction how did the 69 go! I notice nitrous solenoids there and bottle bracket too

He must have better control of his right foot than i do cause he had street tyres on as well. In my pic of the interior you can see a laptop on the passenger seat, so i assume he was playing around with the tune during the day as well. Here he is racing a 63 Plymouth

A bit of turbo lag would help off the line too... until the boost from those two puffers kicks in..

No times, No traction, No DYO racing?
Pretty much a waste of time?

yeah pretty much Surly, the track surface was rough and bumpy, the staging lanes and pit area had a better surface than the track did. Peeled more rubber off my guards from the 8 passes than i did after 2 burnouts and 3 supercruises at Motorvation. Won't be racing there again unless they re-surface the track and get some traction......or unless NDRA want to supply me with some rear tyres :D
