I ordered thru 'showwheels' in queensland. ...$3400 for the set. They did take a 12 weeks to arrive . They told me 6 weeks.... so i went to 'intro'(kwc) in states when on holiday and they were having trouble with 18 inch hoop orders ...thats what they said anyways. Not sure if a direct order would be qwiker....
If i was buying again id go thru Jon at 'driverzinc' , he can do it cheaper and has a good range of rims.

Even after all the resarch you've done? Give 'em a go - Maybe getting cold feet coz is such a change from what you have now (Generally more pro-touring direction). Can always paint them gunmetal if changed mind on the finish! Gotta be wrapped about all the other stuff (finally) too eh! Those 3.7s will feel sweeeeeeeet!

Its so hard getting the right rim, i just feel that these rims detract from the look of your car, which you know i love! I don't like the bent spokes, and the all chrome/polished look just doesnt sit right. :( :( :(

Geez , a tuff crowd today:o
Mitch- i just punched the plates into the computer a cupla years ago and they were available. $90 a year to have these.
JJ - I know what your saying. They are to bling for me aswell. They are polished alum but its like chrome .
Marty - I have thought about hitting them with a scourer or fine paper to satin the centers up ? but risky. If i can unload them ill get some others.

A thought, and it should not damage the rims at all: if you want to experiment with some different coloured centres, why not use some childrens paint that desolves in water and is a solid colour? once finished use a sponge and soapy water to remove.
I think its the vertical edges on the rims vs flowing lines on something like Torque Thrusters. The could look fantastic if you ventured down the above track.
White might look good but very 90's, grey would introduce another colour to the car, red would be Yuk, Black would compliment the stripes and would not allow the eye to see the centre detail.
thats my 20 cents.

Hey Gav
You will love the moser 12 bolt, it was fairly easy to bolt it in and lays some of the nicest marks. They are worth every cent. Also i had to stick on the Moser sticker at the stud end of the axle (it was for warranty purposes) when i was finished

what size rim/tyre do you want to run?
IMO, its all about rim/tyre size and stance. I am not a huge fan of these wheels, but the car has the perfect stance, the perfect tyre (most important IMO) and rim size with mega dish out back. So all up the car looks CRAZY with these wheels

yep, im thinking matt black or a gun metal type centre . I may have to stick mine on evilbay:eek: if i get close to 3gs ill need $1500 more to make up for the new ones:(

Man, sorry to hear your not too keen on the new rims.. Thats a real bummer mate.. Im kinda with you but.. kinda look a little chunky, and dont suit the look you are after.. IMO ;)

Gav, i've been looking at some Rushforth's, i reckon the Rated X are a little modern for the car. Will be very hard to pull off IMO. I really like these ones
Live Wire - for a racey look, but been done many times before
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/188/livewiremedium.jpg (http://img43.imageshack.us/i/livewiremedium.jpg/)
Sharp shooter - these are different, unique, would look killer with black or gunmetal finish. Must have deep dish on the rear
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/6387/sharpshootermedium.jpg (http://img200.imageshack.us/i/sharpshootermedium.jpg/)

Not far different than the wheels that you have just bought !!
Maybe paint the centres of your new wheels with black tyre paint and see what they look like.
If no good just wash the tyre paint off, a lot cheaper than a new set .... worth a try

Having a red car myself this was the choice i was going to make if going prostreeter.
I agree this just needs nothing, sometimes understating things is the best proposition.
I reckon stay with the current wheels and have the centres power coated or two paked black, this will fit in with your black stripes and paint.
There you go my two cents worth, and this should be timeless, I personally I think the big wheels have had their day on classics, they may look good but the ride is rubbish, from personal experience.

Good to see someone sees my point of view of using a cheap water based paint to see if the black centres suit the car or not. Just wash it off if not happy, if happy take the rims off and take them down to get two paked or powder coated.
they would would look cool with black centers. try the water based paint trick and post pics :)

Latest Update - Friday 25th Sept 09'
Had to get new multi spring plates drilled out to a larger diameter to fit the oversize shackles .
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd202/dragstripper/SPRINGMOUNTS001.jpg
Had rear Hotchkis leaf springs re-set another 3inches lower. That gives me 4 1/2 lower than standard height. New gas shocks on rear. New Moser Posi rear fitted up nice with no dramas . New spring bushes etc.
Had to trim to edge of spot welds on rear guard lips to be safe fit with new rims and tires.
Finally got to drop it to the ground to see how it all fits/looks.
Heaps of room inside and out with the 10inch rims. Pretty happy with the result today.

yeah , will stick with exact same sizes. as they fit perfect up under the guards , had to trim 1/2 inch off inside lip but thats it. could go lower in rear if wanted.

Gav, try this, undo all 4 bleeders from brake cylinders, make sure master cylinder is full, pump brakes about 4 to 5 times, fluid goes everywhere, so if you dont want this to happen connect rubber hoses to the outlets and either to a rag or inside a bottle or can. Once pumped, do up all the bleeders and start the bleeding process from furtherest cylinder from master cylinder forward.
It should give you a good pedal.
Gav stance is perfect! If you don't look at the car and think, damn that looks crazy, then ditch the rims! Rims make a car IMO. Its worth every cent to get the look you want. Can you post any 3/4 shots of the car?

Hi Scott
If you are using a factory console you need to have a block of ally about 20mm high bolted to the floor under the shifter.
If you are just using the B&M shifter on its own you need to trim the the black plastic casing by the desired amount to fit the floor, a good sharp pair of scissors will do the trick, just trim about 5 mm at a time until you get the desired height.
If you stuff it up I have a couple of spare housings ;) ;)
Cheers CHRIS

Scott, mines on the floor. I trimmed the plastic with a dremmel with a cutting blade. Measure from floor to top of shifter mounts. Then use that measurement to mark from top of plastic case down , trim that bottom section off. Had two quiksilvers now and both done same way.

Ok I will give my opinion like everyone else is.
The ride height looks great ,the offsets look great, the size of the rims and tyres look great but the rims need the centres painted a charcoal / grey type colour in a satin type finish to make them look right.
The centres are way to shiny and look to blingy considering the rest of the car is a totally stock standard look.
As many have allready said rims and stance can make any car look good if you get it right.
Cheers.

Geez Gav I kinda like them, especially the rear 3/4 view, the dish on the back looks sick!! Hey Nev , i actually thought about your roof cave in when i discovered my mess. I think i woulda almost cried..
as far as springs go i had mono leafs originally and bought hotchkis 1 1/2 drop multis .I ran them for a while on the mono perches with the 10 bolt. I just recently had them re-set 2 1/2 lower ($250) and now have the posi rear and swaybar and qa1 shocks on rear. Also had to get the multi spring plates and oversize u bolts to hold it all together.
Gav
The stance is spot on Gav, how much clearance do you have from the lowest point.
I really like the way the wheels are tucked right up into the guards, hopefully ill get mine to look the same.. its amazing how much better the wheels look with it dumped like that!! Do you get any rubbing at all??

I was closer than "almost" crying. Call me a sook, but you all know how much time and effort goes into these things and at the very least it p!sses you off when they get damaged.
So to clarify, are the springs 1 1/2 drop and then a further 2 1/2 (total 4 ") or total drop is 2 1/2 inches?

You're going to need a reasonable about of clearance too Gav.
Because the leaves are the only thing that locate the axle, and they flex, they'll rub in corners. You need a good 1/2". ..at least!
Otherwise, a Panhard rod or Watts link.. Better and easier to have the BS increased.
Is that possible?
Um.. Do you happen to have a 9" in there that's too wide anyway?

Im thinkin if my rear quarter is out by an inch or so from a prior woofta in it ( signs of) , maybe a new quarter panel or lift the arse up an inch too is a possibility

I just thought on the off-chance that it may have been a 9" and yes, it may be wide buy an inch..
Cutting the tubes, re-welding them and cut & respline the axles may have been easier.

07-01-2010, 04:20 AM
Gav,
Measure your backspace, I did with the 1 rim I pulled out and will with all 4 just to be sure.
My rim is 1 inch wider than I expected, you may have the same issue.
That is it is a 17 x 12, but If I measure outer lip to outer lip it's 13". Hard for you to do now with tyres fitted. I'll post a pic later today with what I mean
Shortening your diff by an inch sounds like the option to go.
Or you can have someone local cut out the wheel centers and move the backspace (big job and could butcher the wheels in the process).
This is a bummer dude.
I have to say the most painful, confusing and just plan hard part of my car is backspacing, with so many variables it's so bloody hard to get right. My first attempt was fine till the diff length resulted in a 2" gap from wheel to fender edge, not what I wanted, so now new rims...so I've been done this costly wrong backspacing / diff width path and feel for ya if it's not a simple fix
chevguy
07-01-2010, 07:43 AM
I think the only way to do it properly bud is to get the b/s changed as per what the other guys have said, at the end of the day it`s a pain but it will be the cheapest/best way to fix your problem. Use a really good machinist and they should come up fine. Unfortunately I have the same problem as you but reversed, I only have about 5mm of clearance on my springs(won`t rub but tyres sit to far in) and I have resigned myself that it`s the only way to go. I have been quoted $150-00 a rim if that helps your decision.

07-01-2010, 07:52 AM
My rim is 1 inch wider than I expected, you may have the same issue.
Rim width is measure from the INSIDE faces of the bead seat. Rim width is not the overall rim width, but the width of the tire's bead seat.
If you measure the outside lip edges, you're rim will be approx 1" wider than it actually is.
Conversly, backspace is measured from the OUTSIDE LIP of the rim.

What are you going to change your backspacing to?
I would have thought that a 5.75" BS on a 10" rim would be a tad shallow.
8" rims are generally happy with a 4.25-4.5" BS and that brings the outer lip reasonably close to the inner wheel well with some breathing space.
Add 2" to the wheel width and that whole 2" should go to the inside I would expect. 6.0-6.5" BS..
Is there enough room back there to do this before you modify these wheels?
cluxford
07-01-2010, 09:01 AM
Steve, yeah 12" on the inside lip to lip on mine.
I know they measure inside lips, I just wasn't expecting a whole other inch on the outside lip to lip
Gav, don't tell me you are going for a 3rd set of wheels ?

This sure is choosing between your kids but, I'd do the wheels. Any visable mods left on the wheel will go further inboard. In other words, you won't see them.
I'd also expect a BS change to be much easier, cheaper and faster too.

exactly steve , thats my first choice for sure... i have a good inch on the inside left to play with...so im thinkn' halfa inch should do it.. and from what i read this mob in sydney looks like they are capable.. so 6.25 ? is that right...half inch on top of 5.75? i wasnt to flash with maths at school:o

I'd take the wheels off. Jack up the rear LEVEL across the width of the car and drop a plumb bob down and mark in on a concrete floor.
The narrowest part of the outer lip and the narrowest of the inner lip.
Then down from the flange where your wheel bolts on. and measure these marks on the floor.
I'd aim for smack in the middle or a minimum of 1/2" from any part of the car.
5.75 + 0.5= 6.25 yes, but don't guess that is what you need Gav. ;)

I'd drop Jason a quick email with your problem to ensure there is enough meat in the center of the hub before you machine anything off it. hate to see a center break under load and a wheel come loose. If he gives the OK it would be the way to go.
Funny part about all this ...i spoke to jason about the b/s and he was going to tweak it to his specs for a better fit with the 10s. But i got the standard 5.75 b/s .... Ill have a look at how much meat is there to play with

ok , heres the thing ha ha ha to me :(
i was looking at panel and paint sometime mid year and guess what, its come early ! yay ! the rear left quarter has been repaired previously from a whack in the rear left..On close inspection in the boot and tail you can see its been panel beated. So im now thinkin' if i get a new rear quarter put on i could tweak the inner and lip while its apart.. ( seeing though i cracked the paint over the guard has no bearing on my decision:p  )
so now i am looking for a rear quater ? and a quote for quality work...I already have new guards and boot and tail panel to go on as well. Im worried about the fit of these repro bits , dave clee has the quarters listed for $500 odd bux with NO returns accepted at all.
whats your thoughts on this ripple effect ... and what would you expect to pay to get a quarter replaced?

Gee, I'm not sure I understand why this could be.. (That's a joke. :p)
I bought an OER right rear 1/4 off Clee to replace the early POS Dynacorn that was a mile off fitting.
It fitted fine. No problems. Lucky they got enough negative feedback as to improve on their product.
