Hey guys, probably been covered but I thought I would share what I just learnt from customs. If your purchase is under $1000 AU there is no import duty,if the country(USA typically) has a free trade agreement with AUS then you can fill out a free trade form(supplier completes), the customs will waive their fee on car goods. e.g the dse mini tub kit I just got landed in AUS and customs wanted $560 for their fee, when I queried it the above info is what they told me is all I need to do to waive it,certainly worthwhile for a little bit of paperwork.

I'm sure most would know this.. however.. I might talk to the other mods and steve about putting up an importing guide or sub forum as it seems to be a regular topic and can be very useful!!! and of course most importantly save $$$

Yeah might be a good idea,I also have the relevant forms sent to me in a word document, dunno how to attach them if req but I am happy to do so if needed.I didn`t know about the trade agreement paperwork myself, thought that it would automatically be exempt if it indeed qualified, that`s why I thought I`d share.

I used this same approach for my DSE tubs and my Art Morrison subframe, saved me heaps !

Customs can be a bit of a pain at times as technically the entire article must be "produced" from the point of origin. ie not just assembled and shipped. If it uses say any parts from China then it technically doesn't qualify.

I had to work with AME on the sub frame to get some additional info to allow that to go through.

For the record, I would luuuurve to see a thread like this. Have never imported parts from the States and with the dollar starting to come back our USM-owners' way, I'd dearly like to know any tricks, what to avoid etc.

Same deal with those wanting to bring a car in, I'm sure. Up to you guys if have as single or separate thread. Bring it on!!

I got 2 Delta 88 Custom guards bought over via a business that one of my mates works for... on their back edge they stand 7 feet high !

They only charged me $195 the pair !

I will see if they would be happy to bring other panels in if anyone in Vic needs some ... and get a price.

I thought that was way cheap considering one of them cost me US $300 to get it from one side of the US to the other

Oh yeah, these guys bring in complete and incomplete vehicles, mainly Mustangs, but will bring vehicles for you too :)

Is this $1000 inclusive of shipping or just the goods? Like if I get a set of wheels that are $950 AU and the shipping is $400 is there import duty on this.
