At some stage I'd like to replace my side windows due to scratches etc. The cheapest way I have found is to buy a set through Road Runner Windscreens in Croydon, Vic.
I think it was something like $700 or $750 set of six depending if in clear or green tint.
The only catch is they don't stock them anymore and need to get FIVE orders to do a run. So if anyone is keen at some stage, drop a note here or contact them direct if preferred.

Or, if anyone has other cheaper alternatives, please let me know! :) Ta.

Assume not due to the differences mate, but we can always ask! At least they'll get economies of scale from the rear quarter windows!
(OMG - Did I learn that term during the drunken haze of uni? Can't believe that stuck in there.. :p )

Personally I'm in no hurry - Takes over a month AFTER order placed. I wasn't planning on changing for 6-12 months, but thought would put the feelers out there & can order sooner/later if ppl need.

Yeah sweet as. I'm on night shift at the moment otherwise I would make some calls myself.
Going to be needing front screen along with left and right door glass soon. Back screen and rear Quater windows are fine.

Bugger. Just rang Roadrunner & they said a decision was made last night not to do Camaro glass any more. Their reasoning was that customers like us can bring it in OER stuff from the States cheaper than they can get it made!
But when I rang East Coast then, they quoted $1160 for a set of 6 OER in clear (Vent $155, Side $250, Rr Qtr $175) Although would be cheaper if like 10sets or something..
Sorry guys... Any other thoughts welcome (I'm not so keen on well over a grand for some glass..)

Whats the smoked glass that cluxford was referring to in another thread through prodigy worth?

Ray, this is the kit I was referring to
http://www.shop.gpsuperstore.com/product.sc?productId=2&categoryId=3
US$750 (standard price)
Frank has shipped heaps of stuff out here for me and others. I reckon he could do us a deal on shipping if we bought in bulk buy getting a cheaper price with the selected freight forwarders he uses (all standard stuff). He would also allow us to do multiple models (ie not just 67, but 68, 69 and even other cars).
I can give him a buzz if need be.
*rayman*
19-05-2009, 04:26 PM
That kit works out at $977 at the current exchange rate... Could be an option.... may be cheaper for some of us guys that would normally go an put tint over the glass anyway.
RAW454
19-05-2009, 05:03 PM
So that's including front & rear screen? Surely freight would be a killer for glass.. Reckon they could tell us what % tint it is?
Personally I only *really* need the L&R door glass, then will be putting 30% tint on it all like my freshly-done rear screen. But open to options!

rayman.. $977 is a good price here - is that including any Australian tax's here or freight to here, who will look after the ordering.. where can we send the money and can it come to Sydney or only Melbourne and if not who ships it safely. Glass is a pain to handle but needed by so many of us.

Was talking to a Perthite who picked up some glass for his 67 Firebird and that cost $550 just for a front screen!!
I need the front screen and left and right side door glass only, everything else is fine. But at $550 just for a front screen a full set of glass for $977 sounds much more economical.

OK, Frank from Prodigy got back to me overnight. Here is the offer he has on the table for us.
If you can get 5 together I can do them for $600 a set + shipping plus $150 to build a wood crate to make sure it has a chance to survive! This would be for clear, green, or smoked for Camaro hardtop. Subtract $50 for convertible. We can also have other car muscle car glass. Let me know what you need. It would be great if I dealt with you (one person) as the spokes person and you organize the order.
Frank
So looking at that, lets say we got USAtoAUS to ship for us, not sure what shipping would cost yet.
But $600 per set + $30 for wood crate ($150 divided by 5) that's $630 US per set. At today's FX rate of 77 cents that is AUD$818 for the whole kit (always good to have spares). Plus any shipping fees but if it all came over as one crate into say Melb or Sydney and was then split from there I suspect it might be another $100-$200 each. So roughly AUD$1000 for a full set.
Also at $818 for the set there are no tax or duty fees (under $1000).
So who is in, I need 5 takers. Any model just need 5 confirmed takers.
Cheers

"Also at $818 for the set there are no tax or duty fees (under $1000)."
Cluxford..... as I understand it.. it's only when your importing via the mail or at the airport etc...sometimes there is no tax.. as it will come in under one Delivery Order... unless you get 5 separate individual consignments invoices under the 5 different peoples names.. & they submit to Customs 5 different entries... and they you must ALSo add the freight cost that USAtoAUS charged you .. add that to the purchase cost total.. ..add them all together .. then submit it for tax.. so even if its say US$650 individually.. combined its at least US$3000.. ... you will pay tax, either GST or Import then compounded cost of the freight & compounded by GST etc. depending on where they are made.. plus you will also be into the AQIS inspection and possible fumigation cost due to wood packaging.. The A$ your quoting is the wholesale rate.. not the exchange into our hands rate or bank to us rate. John Cain in Newcastle has a good web site explaining it properly. I recall the guy from Ralph Moore Autoglass in Sydney saying breakage rate is about one in 15. If one gets broken in the five.. who'se will it be.?? and how to claim & does this include.. I want to order a set but don't want to loose my money.
Please help with this... check with your advisers 100% first.

Marshall,
Well spotted, I had actually not thought about that...to used to doing my own stuff. You are correct, if bundled all together we will be hit for taxes and duties. I have no idea what they are I have never been able to figure it out.
I assumed that when coming in a container by USAtoAUs (haven't spoken to em yet but will today) that their containers are fumigated anyway.
As for breakage, we will have to wait and see. I know not everyone wants a full set, so when it lands and if not all of it makes it in 1 piece we can then determine who gets what and how payment should work out.
On FX rate, if I do a wire transfer with my bank I usually am within 0.5 of a cent of the daily published rate. the rate today is 77.4 cents, so I am comfortable using 77 cents
Thanks for alerting the error on duties and taxes.
So lets rework the numbers now:
US$600 a set x 5 sets = $3000
US$150 wood crate
= US$3150
AUD at 77 cents
= AUD$4091
Shipping to be added. I'll say $1000 for now until I get an update today. Including fumigation. May change once calls made today.
Net $5091
GST 10% of above = $509
I'll assume no other duty.
Total = $5600
Divided by 5 people = $1120
Plus some shipping to your house from drop off point.
I may be able to get Frank to do 5 invoices though. He has done that before for me on other parts. That would save the GST. I also have never paid GST on shipping....ever !

That was just converting it to Aus $... there was no shipping calculated in that or import costs.
I reckon Frank is quoting on $150 for a crate, per order. I think it'd be a pretty sophisticated crate to hold 5 lots of glass. Then if they drop this 1 crate, good chance all of the order will get broken. ie: everyones glass.
Do they do insurance on glass? This might be a worthwhile exercise.
When i got my front screen through the local supplier, the first one turned up broken, the second one that turned up was a convertible screen and too narrow, then the third was ok. It sucked as i was waiting for em to come up from melbourne i think. Weeks of mucking around. Would be worse if they are coming sea freight from the states. Wait 3 months, see if they are ok, order replacement, its broken too. 9 months later, we might have glass, and blown out freight costs.

I had my front windscreen replaced about a year ago through insurance. The cost of the windsceen including removing my old one and fitting the new one was $600. Was told by the guy installing it that Camaro's share the same windscreen from '67 to the mid '70's, can't remember if it was 74 or 76
I would'nt mind replacing my rear and side glass. The rear has a lot of scratches in it

Just had my '68 Camaro windscreen done last week by Complete Windscreens.
$380, this included new windcreen supplied, removing old screen, and fitting new screen.
I thought this wasn't too bad.

Hmmm, this is sounding like it may fall into the too hard basket.
I only need 3 pieces of glass and if I can get a front screen for $400 and side glass for $200 each then that puts me out of the equation.

Reality bite's ,Lads,Road Runners Camaro Glass 'kit' at around $750 was a fair and very reasonable price and for an extra 'couple hundred' they used to fit the front and rear glass for you, some times it pays to shop Australian, and I'm a Kiwi !!!!!!!!!!?................These cars are now over 40yrs old, Jay Leno stated recently, Quote;"In the thirties, when they built fine Automobiles,Technoligy was exspensive and Labour was cheap,in the year of 2009 ,Technoligy is cheap and Labour exspensive,SO!!,if you can't afford the labour (or the Parts) don't Buy the Car" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had my windscreen installed by Complete as well. A couple of years ago now but it was less than $300 supply and fit. Was quite shocked how cheap it was. Thinking he might have thought I said Monaro instead of Camaro I said 67 Camaro again, and he just calmly said "yeah Aloha Bobby and Rose".

Heyaz, since this I've still been on the hunt for side glass. Roadrunner stopped making & just said "Google it & get it cheaper than us", but buggered if I can find it better than their old $700 for set of 6.
Anyhoo, after 3.5 months of reminder emails & calls, Ralph Moore Autoglass just got back to me;
'67 Vent Glass - $88 ea (Clear or green)
'67 Door Glass - $242 ea (Clear or green)
'67/68 Rear Qtrs - No templates but can make if given a sample. They punting $140ea.
I only need the vents & doors really, so he' got a set on order for me (as of today) plus a spare set for his stock. Both in clear. But if anyone wants to get on board, I guess it makes sense to do so now. May be a slight freight saving, but nothing significant.
If keen, drop a note here or hit them up direct! Details below.
PS - Chris, not sure if you really got thanked you for all the hard work above. So cheers!! :)

USGM (Pontiworld) have some glass, not quite as cheap as the prices you have been quoted.
Door glass = $288 (clear or tinted)
Rear 1/4 glass and track assy = $352
I got a pretty good deal on a windscreen from Complete Windscreens, I think they have Complete windscreens in other states.
The bloke I talked to said they source the Camaro glass from a manufacturer in Qld.
