Been thinking about what might be the Greatest Muscle Car movie of all time..

My nominations would be... ummmmmmm

I always liked the movie "WW and the Dixie Dance Kings" It is a burt reynolds movie that had a fine looking car. Off hand I am thinking a 55 chevy.

Horrible movie but a great car!

Gone in 60 seconds is a top movie, but the new one though...the old one was okay for the car chase only, but not the car and not the dodgy 70's porn movie start...from memory it was a 71 or 71 fastback...anyway elenor in the new one was a pretty nuts looking retro 67!!
Some others for consideration:
-Bullit
-Cannonball Run 1 and 2
-American Graffiti (never seen it, but heard heaps about it)
-Born to Run (a ripper 428 70 fastback mustage in it...a bit corny, but an entertaining flick)
-the dukes of hazard (the newish flick)

...thats all i can think of for the moment...

C'mon guys how could y'all forget the one classic that had it all - 57 Chevy, Dodge Challenger AND a XY GT to name but a few????

RUNNING ON EMPTY

If you haven't seen it it's a MUST.

It gets my vote for no.1 muscle car flick.

Burt must have a thing for muscle cars... even in "the longest yard" (mean machine) i vaguely remember an early scene with him racing around...

cant remember what car it was.. might have to go hire it.

Another good one is The Wraith with Charlie Sheen. It's about an 'alien' car that drags anything on the street and literally kills the opponent every time. The car is a Dodge concept car from back in the 80s with a motor that gives off light whenever he lifts the hood.

It's actually a pretty cool flick with some nice cars.

Absolutely 100%, with out a doubt its American Graffiti! Its all about the car culture we now crave.

I believe I was born in the wrong era. How cool would it have been to be able to cruise your car all night attempting to pick up girls, hanging out at the diner in yankee muscle cars!

If I win tattslotto, I am building a big diner style restaurant, with a huge car park, all revolving around attracting hot rods and muscle cars.

How about Tarantinos "Death Proof". Theres a crazy Nova, a 73 Mustang Grande, and the last big chase with the 440 Challenger and the 69 Charger R/T. The sad thing is seeing those mopars being slowly destroyed.

I preferred Planet Terror out of those two Grindhouse films actually..
When Death Proof got going it was good, but up until then, it was such a chick flick.

1: American Graffitti ..seen it 30+ times... & met a few of the cast over the years..... you know its STILL the highest grossing US movie ever made for the outlay, it was a real budget flick produced on a whim & a pray they say.....http://movie-poster.ws/movies/wallpaper/comedy/american_graffiti/american_graffiti.jpg

2: Aloha Bobby & Rose... about a guy & girl going out one night in LA in the mid 70's and .. sorta they like get into trouble.. ..end up swaping Rose's VW beetle for Bobby's 68 Camaro.. Movie is sound tracked by Elton John & other greats of the day.... Never get sick of this flick.....EVER... hope they screen it at my funeral... it was REAL 70's freedom captured in one night.. it's how to a point so many people want to live.. free to cruise & have the music up with a good looking girl at your side...while driving your muscle car free of fuel costs and radar....! not scared and locked up in a their house with a laptop.. (or it seems to be getting like that... !)

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3047/2849065139_f5929d7ed7_o.png

3: Return to Macon County: ... a bit like Two Lane Blacktop.. but with acting ability... thanks to a much younger Nick Nolti & Don Johnson (Miami Vice fame).. story of two guys in a tough 57 Chevy Coupe taking on the local hoons for pink slips.. then they met girl waitress and escape to LA for the Drags.. .. .. Pretty lame by todays standards but good in other ways.

Vanishing Point
American Graffiti
Bullitt
Death Proof
Dazed & Confused
Smokey & The Bandit 1 & 2
Mad Max

... and whilst not a movie, the Dukes of Hazzard TV Series deserves a mention. Real driving, with real jumps (up until season 6 when they started using scale models). Awesome!

Couple more Oz movies to mention - Metal Skin & Running on Empty

I have Metal Skin on DVD and am still yet to watch it. I also remember poor reviews from friends when it was at the the cinema.
Running On Empty is such a classic.. The Yanks have no idea that this film exists. That suprises me.
