Hi Dave
The rack is from American Online Imports in Adelaide it took us 2 years for Unisteer in US to make the first one, so now they are available.
Converter is a tight 4000 rpm from Dominator in Melbourne

Hi Mitch
I have plenty of stuff left over probably enough to build another one !!
I'm not taking the 78 or the Chevelle to the drags as I will probably be at the sparkies as he is going to work on the 68 all weekend. If he finishes early I might go down for a look.
All the 68 needs now is a wheel alignment but is has to be done on a 4 wheel aligner and GMAC in Myaree can't do it until Thursday, so by next weekend it should be up and running

testing a brand new rebuild for the first time would be a bit nervous. listening for rattles or clunks and remembering if you tightened up 'that' bolt properly.
Its a different choice of colours too....and an interesting rear end ? .. It would have to be one of the best ive seen in Oz , well done again.

Finished cleaning the shed and stacking all of the unused bits away, so now would be a great time for a get together !!!!!
I sold a front bumper and bonnet hinges at the weekend but still have heaps of stuff, F & R bumpers new & good used, LH & RH R quarter, RH Front fender, header panel, valance panel, boot lid, rear spoiler, bonnet with chrome vents, switches, SS badges, fuel caps, wheel arch molds, windscreen and rear window moulds, clips, brake bits, suspension bits, fuel tank, rear mono leaf springs, New Koni rear springs, new rear bushes, ball joints, control arm bushes, steering bits, tail lights, interior bits, new 68 console, sunvisors and heaps of little bits and pieces. so before you buy anything send me a pm and see if I have got what you are after all for a 68 Camaro, I probably have nearly the same for a 78 as well

Had the pleasure of seeing Chris's immaculate green machine in the flesh on the weekend and i have to say it is easily the best 1st gen Camaro i have seen in Perth. The car has the best of everything and the build quality is exceptional. Engine sounds strong too, can't wait until it hit's the motorplex ;)
Chris and his young bloke were kind enough to show me around his place and take a look at all his toy's hiding in the back shed. He certainly has the ideal place for a USMuscle get together and plenty of room for a mini car show. Let's get it organised boy's......

There is plenty of room here for everyone and their families to have a proper day of it and I am sure the wives, girlfriends and kids would enjoy it as much as we would as they tend to get a little left out when we are in the shed all of the time.
I reckon 1 day over Easter would be good, perhaps Sat or Sun. If the weather is good we could have a barbie and a few bevies !!! (bring a towel if you want a swim) and a swag if you want to drink and stay the night.

Well Guys back from Tassie and family duties and can now focus on the car again
After it has been going now for 300ks there are a few teething problems
1. no brakes as the engine doesn't produce enough vacuum so I purchased a brake vacuum pump from CVR a beautiful billet pump that creates 20in of vacuum http://www.cvrproducts.com/vacuum_pump.html
2. The first time I hurt it the other day the torque converter bolts came loose and what a noise that made, limped it home but because the bolts were loose they elongated the holes in the flexplate so the gearbox has to come out so I can put a new flexplate on, better to be safe than sorry again.
3. engine wouldn't rev over 6000 because the fuel pressure dropped to 3lb so I have a new pump by race pumps that pumps up to 50lb so that is going on today (another beautiful billet piece lol) http://www.racepumps.com/Fuel%20Pumps.html
So for the next couple of days I can see myself in the shed so if any guys need a hand or a chat over Easter call in
Cheers CHRIS :D

about 2 years ago when i searched the forums about that Race Pump i kept reading a lot of comments about people having problems with vapor lock when using one on their street car. they may have fixed the problem now but that is what turned me off buying one at the time
Cheers Marty
I also read most of the forums also before I bought the pump, the earlier versions were prone to vapour lock before they changed the piston in the pump. I went cruising at the weekend in 35 degree heat and the car ran great with no hint of vapour lock and the fuel pressure didn't move off 8lb so at the moment so far so good

I have finally finished all of the niggly problems on the car, torque converter bolts, fuel pressure and brakes thank god that is over (for the time being)
I did 300 ks over the weekend without a hitch (fingers crossed)
They say that you need to do 500 ks to sort everything out.
Even the missus was rapt cruising around, she may now let me start on the next one !!!!
I am looking forward to catching up with everyone on the 2nd May and the long range weather forecast says fine 26 degrees perfect bench racing and drinking weather :p

Hey Chris, Glad you're getting things sorted out on that beautiful car. I too planned on using one of those fuel pumps for the big block. Where did you get yours from. That thing must sound incredible at 8,200!!
Hi Dave I bought the pump from Rocket Industries in Sydney

Very well done car mate, you can tell you attend to the minor details which make a good car great. I am jealous of the rear suspension, apparently they are illegal to put in in QLD.

UPDATE
I think I have finally sorted the "niggly bits" the last being when it revved over 7500 it was throwing the fanbelt. Tracked it down to the harmonic balancer that had a slight wobble in it that was exaggerated the more you revved it. It was a Powerbond Pro series replaced it with a Romac.
The other one was an oil leak that I thought was the rear main but tracked it down to the distributor, I have the billet MSD that has an adjustable locking collar for different height manifolds etc, the oil was running through the join in the slip collar !! removed the dissy and sealed the join and then the gasket to the dissy and left it overnight to dry - problem fixed.
I drove the car hard over the weekend with no dramas at all. Looking forward to the WA Get Together this Saturday 2 May.
Cheers CHRIS

Just a few pics from the Perth Street Car mag shoot
I went for a cruise today and as I was dring along Beeliar drive 4 motorcycle cops surrounded me and pulled me over, I thought fark what have I done.
I got out of the car and they asked if they could have a look under the bonnet, trunk all the time being very serious
Then one of them started laughing and told me not to stress (must have been the look of sheer horror on my face) asked if this was the car in Perth Street Car mag.
They all had a good look and a chat, told me they loved the car and reminded me that it was a double demerit weekend and then they were on their way.
It is amazing how guilty you feel when a copper pulls you over even if you haven't done anything wrong :o :o

Hi Guys
Just a quick update
Gave the car a tune today, adjusted tappets, and an oil change as it has now done 1500 ks lol (in 12 months)
I also fitted a new valve body in the Turbo 400 as the changes were very ordinary.
I then had the car dynoed and it came up with 536 RWHP up 87 hp from the last one when the engine was new !!!!!
So now back to the drags to see if I can break into the 10s (and get banned lol ) the best it has run so far is 11.02 @ 127.61MPH with the gearbox in drive as the shifts were very ordinary if I shifted manually The car feels a lot stronger now so I am hoping for around 10.5 or 6 on street radial slicks
I will keep you posted
Cheers CHRIS

Chris, may i suggest going to the last of the Fast Friday's on April 23rd rather than any of the Wednesday night meets as the track prep is a lot better on the Friday's. I went down on a Wednesday night recently and spun the wheels big time every pass whereas never had a problem with traction on a Friday. You will definately run a 10 so your more than likely only going to get 1 pass so make it a good one. Entry cost is the same for both nights. Will more than likely bring the '57 out 1 more time as well on the 23rd for some fun

Been down there twice in the last two days to see my mate Jemahl... Talking about the stripes on the Camaro etc as well as generally catching up.
The place was empty and quiet though and I'm wondering if they may have picked the wrong time to open as it's the off season for the drag scene.
George Saparovich was there looking at a yellow Tonner thats soon to be in PSC...

Just bumping this for a question
Chris, your rear end with DSE quadralink, did you buy the housing (if so which one?) with the brackets welded on or did you get someone local to do it?
Cheers, Muggzy
68cmaro
04-08-2010, 12:45 AM
Hi Muggz
I used a fabricated 9" housing with the DSE brackets welded on locally (they came from DSE with detailed instructions) it cost me $550 dollars to have the brackets welded on and then the diff has to be straightened again as they warp with welding. (included in the $550)
Also when you make a list of the DSE stuff that you are after give me a buzz and I will order it for you as I get a discount from DSE and I will pass it on to you.
PM me if you haven't got my contact details
Cheers CHRIS

My boys took the Camaro & Chevelle to the Armadale Auto Parts Bikini Wash yesterday and had some sensational races to and from there.
There are 4 black marks on the road 2 are 330 mtrs long (Camaro) and the other 2 are about 260 metres (Chevelle). I got told I was getting old as I was telling Simon to back off, his reply was we are only doing 200 ks , to which I replied yes, with a Chevelle up your bum :eek:
But they had a great time thrashing them around to the delight of the other road users
Next time Dad will stay home I think :o:o
The road we use for our test & tune is around 4klms of dead straight deserted road with no side streets, but my wife could hear us from home and was waiting at the gate when we arrived NOT HAPPY with her "boys" hooning around the streets.
I pulled the TH400 out today as I am changing the torque converter, hope to have it back in by new years and then both of them can go berserk at the Motoplex until we get told to leave.
The Camaro should run around the 10.7 and if the Chevelle can get traction I don't think it will be far behind it !!
Cheers CHRIS

Hi Guys
Just fitted a fully manualised TH400 as the gearbox never had solid shifts when it was a full auto, the transformation is amazing even the converter seems to be working better also.
I also fitted a new dash pad (a NOS GM) that I bought off a guy that had it stored for the last 12 years, I had bought 2 oer ones and was pi**ed off with the fit so I have been waiting over 3 years to get a good one.
I also fitted a shift light into the dash, an Autometer pencil light and it fits nicely and un noticed where the high beam light is in the carrier.
Looking forward to the next USM get together.
