Gareth,
My pleasure that cleaned up real nice and damn it looks clean inside for a 40 year old diff.
Drove alright in the 15 metres I drove the car.
As Dicko says, play gentle till that 12 bolt arrive !!!!

Yeah I didn't even clean inside, that pic shows how it looked when I opened it.
As for being gentle, the 2.73 gears will keep me pretty honest I think. Awesome fuel economy though!! :D
Nice score Gareth.
When you finally get your 12 bolt, I'll buy the 10 bolt of you... 2.7's are what I'm looking for for a cruiser... :D

I had a 10 bolt in my 67 everything was fine with the standard 350 and 100 KW until I put in the 406, it lasted just one week.:D
I looked for over a month for a 12 bolt and could not locate one so I did the 9" thing.
Good luck.

Have any of you guys managed to break a 12 bolt? Mine has factory 12 bolt being an SS car... I'm about to put a trickflow diff cover on, that has stabilisers for the caps, and i'll find out what the ratio is while i'm there. How do these diffs hold up to punishment? Didn't realise they were so hard to get in Australia.

YES, several times with a Chevelle 12 bolt in a HQ with a BB ( which bolted straight in). Also broke the axle with a SB. Drag racing of course but a 9" cured all the problems

Got a 12 bolt in my Nova and it seems to be standing up to the 818hp quite well :D and they're not hard to get, if you know where to get them :)

Who did you 9" in Melbourne & how much roughly? I've been shafted (no pun intended) by two diff dudes so far...
(For those no knowing, the *worn* LSD in my 3.55 10-bolt snapped day after rego during some wheel spinnage. Floating bits stuffed the crown/pinion - All I could temporarily afford was used 3.36 gears & single spinner off ebay - Bad move. Whines like a mother above 80km/h. Need out & something that can handle the 454 asap. Can't find 12-bolts either, but not 1-eyed-GM so happy to go 9")

TRANSDIFF out at Bayswater in SE suburbs of melbourne.

Barry is the owner.
Been doing these conversions for over 30 years.
My combo all supplied by him and installed was:
9" round back from 67 F100, cut and shortened.
New version of Detroit Locker.
31 Spline Moser axles.
3:7.1 Ratio.
Single Rib Casing
Larger pinion support
Setup up my disk disk brakes.
All new components except for the diff.
$4500
Its a fantastic setup, as the locker is version 2 I do not hear the clicking noise that previous versions are complained about, although with the the torque from my drivetrain I do get some locking around corners.
Barry is highly respected in the profession, I know several others that have had diffs built for race cars and street machines and everyone has a good story to tell, I do know of one person that was not happy! but then everything that is done on his car he complains about it.

Thanks for that info! Maybe a smidge overmy budget in that spec :p 3.7 is around the ratio I'm looking at too - Obviously is more than OK on the freeway if being used for wedding car?
And when you say "Version 3 opf Detroit Locker" that's obviously different to a Detroit Trutrac? Which is what I was looking at as it seem more street-oriented? http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/ProductsServices/PerformanceProducts/Products/Differentials/index.htm

3.7's are a bit high for a three speed trans, if you were running a t700 with OD then fantastic, my RPM at 100kph is around 3000 with 15 x 245 60 tyres and rims.
The locker, the suretrac is a LSD not a full on locker according to their website.
Mine is a Detroit Locker, they did some improvements on the locking un locking side. This was the newest product 1.5 years ago. I was informed that it would still be very noisy on the street but I have not found this, maybe its due to so much noise from the engine I cant hear anything else such as the fuel pump.
