Hey guys I'm in the early stages of looking for a '65-68 Impala 2 door or 4 door- not quite fussy at the moment:D
I'd prefer a complete runner with minor rust, LHD, engine size don't mind just as long as she can be driven and worked on at the same time.
Any leads I'd be very appreciative. Budget is low <$10,000
And if anyone wants to tell me I'm dreaming I'd be open to that suggestion as well!
cheers all:)

To be honest if you want something nice you can cruise around in good nic I would up your budget to 15kish well for a 67-68 anyway..

Yeah I thought that would be the case! I saw a nice blue '68 that recently went off on ebay for around that price. Did you have many problems acquiring parts for your car?

Here's one to give you an idea of what's about.
It's an Aussie assembled factory RHD.
65 Impala (http://www.qldstreetscene.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12603)
It's in Cairns, so considering the price/condition it's probably not worth sending it the length of the country unless you got it for a bargain.
I'm keen on a 65 impala or similar, (mainly for the quirky reason of being a 65 model myself), but don't have time for another full project on the go. Would prefer something ready to drive, or close to it.
Something Low and slow would keep me mellow while the Camaro comes together.

Dicko I've got just the thing for you- my '97 Hilux diesel. It doesn't have a turbo and B doubles pass me going up hills. It's so embarassing. But yeah I know what you mean.
I couldn't view the pictures of that impala for some reason.

minimike- Well im on my second 68 at the moment and I have not been to bad. There are a few things out for them brand new and you can generaly find a lot of stuff second hand. Small moulds and what not can be a pain but if you look hard enough you will find it. Keep in mind 68s (not sure about the rest) where aus delivered. At the same time 63-64 are up there with the camaro where you can practicly get everything brand new but there is a lot out there for the 67-68 and even 69s. Not sure about 65-66 though.

does not look to bad for the price but I think one of the older boys on the site would be the ones to ask, in my opinion for the price pending it does not have to much rust its not bad..Personaly I would spend a bit extra and get something running

Yeah the more I think about it the more hassle it would be. I mean a car that was sitting for 10 years in a garage without being started would need just about every rubber and seal thrown over the left shoulder wouldn't it?

Honestly .. none- operational, sitting rusting in the joint & seams for a decade.. .. nuh.. $3000 probably max. Even a finished car.. with prestine restoration on the road its only going to REALISTICALLY fetch say $17,000 in the end.. and that HAS to be VERY VERY good to get that.. most times expect one on the road with rego in ok condition for around $8500 to actually BUY it.. Do the sums.:o Great car to cruise with and learn alot on.. but investment.....no.

15 to 20 will buy a glamour that someone else has spend 30 or more on and a good daily driver should cost you no more than about 12k Those are the facts.

Pass on the hilux, but thanks for the offer. lol.
Has no motor or trans and needs just about everything done. Has a few doors etc spare. It's been dropped to 4k, which is still top dollar when you look around at the prices of complete runners or tidied up versions as mentioned above.

Thanks Dicko. That one needs lots of work for the money.
What do we all think about this one;

I don't mind driving it around and fixing bit by bit over the years.... If I could afford a restored one for $25k I probably wouldn't go for it anyway :) I like a challenge!

Mike , that dosnt look too bad , its a fastback which is a BIG plus. That front guard rust is a worry , its sure to hide something more sinister.
Theres a couple of early chevs on ebay rego'd and running for under 15 at moment.

I've seen worse.
2 door impala with a factory big block is definitely worth looking at in the flesh to see what it is "really" like.
"Swivel" seats?
I think parts for late 60's Impalas are realtively easy to pick up.

Thanks Gav, Nev.
Now all I need to do is compile a list of 'what to look for's'
Save a bit more money
and convince the boss it's a good idea!
